BennerP220Traveling to Washington DC in a few days. Should I bring 15 round mags?
I’m going to a conference. I am a full time, fully certified police officer. I have done some reading on the high cap magazine ban there. I was going to just bring my Glock 43. But, I started thinking if something happens I’ll obviously want as many bullets as I can get. So, I am thinking of bringing my 43x instead.
It doesn’t look like LEO are exempt. I know there was just a court case on this but the law hasn’t changed. I haven’t had to deal with this before as I’m from Indiana. I will have my credentials on me. What do my forum guys think? 43 or 43x?

12131The chance of “something happens” that you’ll need more than 10 rounds is minuscule, and the chance of you getting caught with a banned mag is similarly small, imo. If it were me, I would carry a 10-rounder pistol. I don’t want to have to deal with being arrested and prosecuted, just in case.

mrprovyMy wife wants to go some time in the next couple of month. I'm covered under LEOSA as a retiree, but will probably just carry my P365 with the 10 rounder and leave my larger backap mag behind.

sig2392I would just bring 10 rounders and not worry about being a test case.
If 10 are not enough, a slim chance, bring a few 10 rounders.
This is someone speaking that has carried for decades and never had to draw my gun.

I agree, he should take an M240 with him with a couple cans of ammo.

BennerP220LOL. I could just take my SBR and several 30 rounders. I mean, with everything going on in the world it may be wise to just fully suit up!
In all seriousness, though, I’m just asking the brain trust here what the consensus would be. I’m leaning toward my 43. It’s easier to carry. I do have my 10 rounders for my 43x, too.

DrWhoI live just about 13 miles from DC and have lived in the DC area all my life, 77 years. It is pretty good in DC lately but don’t wander around at night.

calugoJust carry a couple extra 10 round magazines, why tempt fate despite the low risk.

pedropcolaThere is no way I would tempt fate irt DC. Take the 10 rounders, a spare or two and pray for the best. I believe they have the ability to charge you for having spent cases in your car. That place scares me on multiple levels.

armoredIf you carry a semi auto you should always carry a second magazine.
2- 10 rnd mags should be good to go.

Will that fit in a Glock?

mrprovyDoesn't the recent decision in Benson vs US make this a non-issue in DC?

Despite the headlines, it’s still the law. The case was a win for one guy. In this one case the law was found unconstitutional, yet in another,
Federal Appeals Court Upholds DC’s Ban on Magazines over 10 Rounds, the opposite happened.
In other words, violate the law, get caught, expect to be arrested, and you get the opportunity to take your chances in court.

sig 226When are you traveling?
Unless the mag ban is addressed before you travel, I wouldn't risk it. LEOSA covers the pistol, but as I was told it doesn't supersede state/local laws on mag limits.
