As mentioned elsewhere, 2024 F250 SuperDuty, XL trim, 6.8 "Minigodzilla" gasser, 10 speed auto. Offroad package, towing package. Single cab, 8 foot bed.

I bought this truck over the internet based on the build sheet, pictures and the negotiated price. Had I done the deal in person from the start I might not have bought this exact truck. The main reason for that is the Offroad suspension and the 33" tires. Thing rides like a tank, and steers about the same. On smooth or reasonably smooth roads all is good. On busted up Spring thaw roads, its HORRIBLE! Barely managed 20-30MPH but to be honest two of the three roads going out of town are completely falling apart. Even in the luxo-mobile car you have to slow way down and steer around the potholes and frost heaves.

Other than that, I like it and I like the features. Vinyl buckets and rubber floormats - an actual TRUCK! I can see where the 360° camera view is going to come in handy, especially the hitch view and the in-bed view. I need to play with the center dash display to see what data I want to view and what screen colors/formats are available. Right now I keep it turned off as the clock view is too bright.

It's a tall booger with the 33's, so the side steps are appreciated. Came with spray-in bedliner, also appreciated. View from the cab and mirrors is good. View over the front is a little limited and will take some getting used to. The "parking" mode of the camera has come in handy already to judge where the front bumper is.

So basically I'm happy and think I'll get happier as I transition from what was essentially an SUV with a really large trunk (the Tundra) to an actual work truck.

BigSwede, what are your thoughts in ordering one the dealer does not have or would not order for their inventory?

I have an Undercover TriFold on my Tundra. Works great and pretty water tight. It has the Ammo Tex which is like a LineX on it. Holds up great. It does freeze to the tailgate and makes it not possible to open the tailgate occasionally but a spay or bit of grease would probably help.

I just put a 3/4” horse stall mat in the bed, rather than line it. Cost vs use. I have a trailer for stuff that might damage the truck.

I had a custom fit rubber mat in the 06 GMC. When I traded it for the Tundra, I kept the mat and cut it to fit the Toyota.

I let it go this time, but it was definitely a cost effective way to protect the bed floor.

I'll use the bed on the Ford as it was intended but I did learn one lesson from the Tundra: Never, EVER let a Deep Homo employee load a pallet in the back of your truck with a fork lift...

PHPAUL: What is the anticipated Fuel mileage of your new Ford? My 2016 Tundra consistently gets about 13-14 mpg normal driving. Do you think 10-11 mpg is feasible?

I will keep my essentially incapable SUV Tundra for the foreseeable future. Hope the Tundra last me quite a while. I simply can't afford a new truck.

I think so. The "instant mileage" data on the display is showing 9.8 right now, but there's a lot of idle time in that. I'm driving in "Eco" mode. When I get a couple of tanks through it, I'll try to remember to post numbers here.

Regarding the rough ride if your truck lists the tire pressure as 65/80 PSI like F-350 srw I have found that when not really loaded 55/60 works much better. I’m running 35” E rated tires on 20” rims.

@smlsig - thanks for the tip, I'll check the pressures.

Really, though, under the best circumstances, it's going to be a much rougher ride than the Tundra. Fine for a work truck. Joyriding and cross-country trips will be out. Single cab pretty much eliminates any luggage-required traveling anyway. Got the RAV4 for that now.

Some glad I won't be working on it! Gotta stand on my tippy-toes to even see in there, much less reach anything.

Do it. An oddball truck we would probably want a non refundable deposit on it. You can negotiate the price before ordering, dealer will usually offer a good deal up front on an order. For GM, you can't lock in rebates, what is available at time of delivery is what you get.


Before the plandemic we could put a sold order in and they would pick it up pretty quick. Now, we have to get allocation for a specific cab and weight class and hope whatever options you wanted aren't on constraint.

PHpaul, thanks for the pix. I agree, your truck looks great. Unfortunately with a passenger and two dogs, one being a chihuahua a regular cab is out.

Love the tires. 17" or 18" on a truck like this don't cut it imho.

I don’t know, I think the 17s look just fine on that truck.

I’d go 60psi front and 55 psi rear. There’s probably about 3,800lbs on the front tires and only 2,500 on the rears.

For a GP truck, looks like a good fit. I couldn't get by with a single cab, though. 3 kids at home, need a back seat.

Had a shot at a 2021 Coyote XLT 4wd SCrew at work, but just not the right time to be buying something right now.
177k miles, but all highway. Truck was in great shape & stickered for $60k

Well, Dear, it's because I don't have $80K laying around.

Pretty sad when a 3/4 ton is cheaper than a half-ton F150 but those things sell like hotcakes to folks that are looking for a pickup, not a truck.

I have a sort of tradition of naming my trucks and putting some sort of representative toy on the dash. For instance, my big ol' green '06 GMC was "Kermit" and there was a toy frog on the dash.

The Ford will be the "Abdominal Snowman" (yes, I know, it's 'abominable') and I printed this little feller for the dash:



Daughter will do a little painting here and there to make the details pop.
