Oooo, I forgot about pickled periwinkles aka whelks (sea snails). Steam 'em and toss 'em in a jar with cider vinegar and a healthy dose of black pepper overnight. Mmmmmmmm-MMM!! Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I quite often make a meal of PB on saltines (no butter, though). My unusual food would probably be currants. I'm very fond of them but don't get them very often. My mom used to make jelly from them (my favorite jelly). I've also eaten mustard on fries, but usually by accident. Potato chips, too. People with a certain gene say that cilantro tastes like soap, whereas those that don't have it seem to like it. I like Spam. I cut it into slices about 1/8" thick and fry them, then make a sandwich with whole wheat toast and mustard. I like raw turnips, too. And radishes. flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth

I just had tripe for the first time yesterday. Cooked on the "hot & spicy" side of a traditional Chinese hot pot along with a whole bunch of other stuff (taro, lotus root, octopus, shrimp, tofu, beef, 4 kinds of fungi, bok choy, etc.) NRA Life Member - "Fear God and Dreadnaught"

Isn’t fried okra a standard dish ? Mom grew it and we had it on a regular basis in Summer Fried mullet mentioned. Yum. Every time we visit my in-laws in Pensacola they go all out and have an amazing fish fry. Nothing like fresh fish and I mean caught within last 12 hours fresh. My grandpa (papa) used to get a cake of Limburger and share it with me and a beer. Maybe it was the attraction of having a few sips of a coors starting at age 10 or so a few times of year. I don’t think it stinks at all and I still buy a cake once a year or so and have a beer when I want to commune with papa. Nobody else in my family will touch it. Fried chicken livers. The thought turns off a lot of people but another family favorite. My mom makes is using my grandma’s recipe about 1x a year because it’s so rich and just a study of cholesterol. But for a treat it’s amazing. Abalone. I havent been able to get any for a few years because the sport season has been canceled due to whatever reason but for the first 30+ years of my life we had it several times a year. Especially back when the daily limit was 10! The last year we had a season it was 3. Poaching is rampant. Fresh preferred but frozen is ok it’s an amazing delicacy.

Big okra fan here. My wife will blanch them to serve with tofu, grated ginger and soy sauce, in summer. Will go out of my way for okra, anyway it's prepared. Marinated herring in cream sauce has been a joy since youngest childhood. Anchovies in ceasar salad or on a pizza is fine with me. Sardines are delicious and my wife's favorite. Escargot is another joy from earliest years. I have gotten folks to try them by explaining that it tastes like the center of the tenderest filet mignon. Really enjoy reading that other folks enjoy these delights, but are they really all that odd?

Pickled okra is a favorite here. Also saltine crackers in buttermilk, although not in years because of the calories and fat.

I'll try pretty much anything once. The following, I've had several or many times and would eat again (unlike whale which is the most disgusting thing ever). Braunschweiger sandwiches with German mustard. Surprisingly, my love for this came from the English side of my family not the German side. Calf Fries. Back in the late 90s, it was my 3rd week living in Texas and I was invited to a vendor's Christmas party. I ate what I thought were fried mushrooms, but they were more like a cross between a mushroom and meatball. My coworkers finally told me what I was eating (fried testicles), but I ate a few more anyway. Don't see them often, but I've eaten them since. I'll eat oysters fried, grilled, and/or raw. Growing up only my Mom and I would eat beets. Now, I grow my own in my garden and they're way better than the canned beets. Pineapple on my pizza. Grilled or oven roasted brussel sprouts. Never had them growing up since both parents hated them. I've tried it. Let's just say it's an acquired taste (one I won't be acquiring). "If Gun Control worked, Chicago would look like Mayberry, not Thunderdome" - Cam Edwards

I like a can of tuna in my macaroni and cheese. I have had it since I was a kid. I will also eat tuna straight from the can. There are 3 kinds of people, those that understand numbers and those that don't.

I guess the strangest is peanut butter and bologna sandwiches. Though I have not had one in years it was a staple of my childhood. I also like peanut butter and cheese sandwiches. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

Peanut butter on my pancakes, waffles, or french toast. Crunchy is best. Used to come down early to help mom make breakfast and if any of the above were on the menu I started with a heaping teaspoon of peanut butter goodness. Corned beef hash right out of the can and in the pan until crispy brown. Then into a bowl and covered in ketchup. Something about the combo. Cheers~
