It is all relative. It's 62 and sunny here today.

Last year we had a mild winter, 4 snow events, less than 12 inches of snow, total. It snows, then it melts. We usually get 60 - 90 inches but only a few inches at a time...then it melts.

We've been here since 2005. We've been snowed in twice for 2 or 3 days.

We do get really cold spells but they aren't long lasting. During those single digits are possible for a few days.

Ice storms are brutal but we've only had two since 2005. With those you really can't go anywhere until it melts... again, usually a few days.

Weather in Boone is bizarre. I was there in the early 90s at ASU. One day in May for final exams I woke up to 70 degrees and sunny at 8am. I went to my first exam at 9am, came out around 10:30 and there was a couple inches of snow. The temperature fluctuations can be ridiculous. Beautiful area but Boone itself is way overdeveloped.
