SE PA: recommendations for someone to build AR upper? Login/Join

Any SE PA folks have a recommendation for someone in the area to build an AR upper (install barrel, headspace, install muzzle device)? Nothing fancy to do, I just can't take care of the upper build myself so I'm looking for someone reliable in the area.

I DO NOT want to ship the upper, so local folks only. Obviously don't want to spend an arm and a leg on an already expensive AR10 project.

I don't have those tools, but have a question. Are you looking to find a good guy price on this at our area shops and gunsmiths, or are you hoping one of us has tools and experience to do this?

I can ask around, about the first part.

A shop or smith.

Just looking to drop off and pick up, rather than go with the typical "ship it to ADCO".

Sean Reed, CDI Knife & Gun in Chalfont.

Excellent work, reasonable rates, true gentleman.

He's a one-man band, but worth the wait.

Auger precision is out in the Bristol area, and would probably be willing. The guy that runs it is a member at LRGC, and does some nice work.

I'll second RAMIUS' recommendation of Classic. I go there frequently, and the guys are always helpful. They routinely do minor things like installing sights on pistols. I'm sure they could help you out or point you in the right direction.

I wonder how much it would cost to have an armourer do it? Because the only specialized tools needed, IIRC, is a Magpul BEV Block ($40 at PA) or a reaction rod, and the barrel nut wrench, which often comes with the handguard.

Other than that: A vise, a torque wrench (if you like to be accurate) and a drive pin punch set (or nails, if you're being cheap). Oh yeah: And a dab of AeroShell 33MS ($8 via Amazon Prime).

It's not terribly difficult, unless the muzzle device needs to be pin-welded.

I don't have a vice or anywhere I could affix a vice if I did have one, unfortunately, so DIY upper is pretty much out of the running.

I can do the lower easily enough because it's a billet set and the bolt catch and takedown pins were installed, so not a single roll pin to punch, plus I'm using an ELF trigger and a UBR, so installation of parts is very low key and shouldn't require a vice at all.

I'll drop a line to Classic. They're good guys. Or try Auger or maybe King's Shooter's supply since they're all LPRGC guys.

Thanks all.
