Vehicle transport from Scottsdale to Missoula. Thoughts?
Have purchased a vehicle in the desert and need to have it transported. Anyone up for a road trip to Big Sky?

Anyone in the know have a solid idea of the cost of such a transport?

Thanks guys.

It’s been a while since I had a car shipped and the price of gas is…well you know but I would guess in the ballpark of $2.00 to $2.50 per mile.

Do you need to have it shipped in an enclosed trailer or will an open deck work?

Can't you fly there and drive it back?

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

If memory serves, if you do that then you'd have to pay AZ sales tax. Having it shipped = no sales tax.

Would that only be from a dealer? Or a private sale too? OP doesn't specify which.

seller got me a quote of $2k. Was hoping for $1500. But maybe that is not terrible.

I think that’s pretty solid with today’s fuel pricing with what I’ve been finding lately for vehicle transport costs. Probably could have shipped $1k-$1500 a year ago.

Yeah, went a long time paying .80-$1 a mile to $2 plus. It got expensive quick

See if there is a web site that you can list transport jobs to driver. I use Central Dispatch but I believe it's only for dealers, could be wrong. Occasionally Ill get lucky and piggy back on an already booked job, paying a good bit less than $2

Try Shiply.com....it's a trucking brokerage board, input your pickup & delivery adds, type of vehicle, then you'll receive bids for open or enclosed transport. Prices are negotiable. I've used it numerous times.

Is it on the way from Louisiana to Idaho? In about a week, my son and his classmate are driving to Idaho stopping in Louisiana and a couple of national parks after that on the way meet the rest of their class in Salt Lake City. The group will be heading to Mackay, Idaho for a six week Geology field camp.

There are a bunch of snow birds that would do it for You.
But not until next April.

I know a guy in illinois that did it for meals , lodging and $100.00.

Depending on their route and timing. They will most likely be very close to both locations on their trip.

Try some of the car enthusiast groups like the AACA or the Jalopy Journal, take your time and you’ll find out who many of those that require this service use. Also try any of the local chapters of the AACA VMCCA or similar in your area to ask for suggestions.

Maybe you can find a deal for a transporter deadheading back to where you want the car delivered?

We looked at the map and Scottsdale is too far out of the way for their time frame.

I’d take the $126 Allegiant flight from Missoula to Pheonix on 6/7, have the dealer pick me up from the airport and drive the vehicle back.
