I'm looking for a set of Molle panels in a certain configuration, but I can't seem to find them.

I want a Molle panel with the vertical straps on back & Velcro loops on front, about 12-14" wide by 8-10" tall.

The mating panels (2ea. same size) would have Molle webbing on front (oriented horizontally) with Velcro hook on the back.

The idea here is so I can have a shingle of 5.56 mags & a separate shingle of .308 mags with rip-off interchangeability without having to mess with the straps.

I think this would be useful on a plate carrier, but I can find no such item. Is there some obvious downside I'm missing?

This type of concept is already incorporated into a number of different modern plate carries, which are designed with vertical female buckles and loop velcro on the front in order to accept removable "placards" with various different pouch setups, which are held to the plate carrier using vertical male buckles and hook velcro.

A wide variety of companies like Haley Strategic, Ferro Concepts, Mayflower, Spiritus Systems, and a whole host of others offer a number of different hook-velcro-backed placards with either built-in mag pouches or bare MOLLE loops.

You can retrofit an older plate carrier with a standard MOLLE front to accept these type of velcro placards using a MOLLE loop velcro panel such as this:

Plus these vertical QASM buckles:

That's what I did with my MOLLE-front plate carrier, which now accepts velcro placards:

I did see these. I was hoping for something wider. I guess I could move some stuff to make room for the buckles. Thanks for the input.

Which one is that? The green panel on gray carrier.

Also, is there a hook panel to mate to that loop panel with Molle webs on the front for mag pouches?

The green panel on the gray carrier is an example of a hook panel with MOLLE web on the front, to mate to a loop panel.

These are made by a variety of manufacturers:

And others.

The vertical buckles are necessary to add additonal support. If you just stuck a loaded down hook velcro placard to the front of a loop panel, with no vertical buckles attached, it would/could be torn free from the velcro when going prone, running (from the weight of the loaded placard bouncing), climbing, getting in/out of vehicles, etc.
