RIP. Don't think anyone has mentioned The Man Who Would Be King, a fantastic movie. Connery and Caine together are amazing, he will be missed.

I saw this today and my first thought was for The Constable. Because that was an awesome pic. My second thought was "wow".

90 years old in the Bahamas. God Speed, Sir Connery.

RIP.
I always knew that if I saw his name in the credits it would be a decent movie.
A GREAT ONE is gone.

Do you expect me to talk?

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die.

Much better in my opinion. Just a quote from the President about the man.

That movie is memorable, fabulous. I've seen it maybe three or four times, it's that good.

Haha, that's it? I think I end up watching it three or four times a year.

We watched The Man Who Would be King tonight—thanks for the recommendation.
What a great movie! What a great story! And yes, Connery’s acting was so far above the Bond films, it doesn’t surprise me he grew to hate the role.

I've seen that movie literally dozens of times, the first one in the theater.

As much as I despise arec ballrin, Connery was excellent. I loved the part where they were getting shot at. Ryan was scared, so Ramius tried to distract him. He asked what books Ryan wrote. Ryan said "The Fighting Admiral," a biography of Bull Halsey. Ramius replied "Ah, yes, I know this book. Your conclusions were all wrong, Ryan. Halsey acted foolishly."

That was one of the best scenes in any movie I've ever seen. It's also a great geek factor for me, since I understand that reference. Ramius was referring to the Battle off Samar, where Halsey took his entire fleet chasing after the Japanese decoy carriers up North, leaving the landing beaches and escort carrier forces exposed to a huge Japanese battle fleet.

Then, they had that quiet drama scene where the US sub is stalking the Red October, and Ramius and the other officer are talking about the Cold War and how his wife died while he was away. "No battles; only casualties."

And it had really great humor, where Tim Curry tells Ramius (as Ramius is in the very process of stealing the sub and defecting) "You'll receive the Order of Lenin for this."

I don't care that Connery's accent wasn't 'correct.' I loved his portrayal. He brought a seriousness to the role, and really made the character of Ramius believable. This is also my favorite 'book-to-movie' adaptation. The movie and book are (like all such adaptations) very different, but they did an outstanding job making the movie.

And, for me, Connery was the best Bond of all time. I will have to re-watch Thunderball again in his honor.

I've seen Red October probably 15 or 20 times, myself. I know it's a profoundly good movie when even my wife, who cares little for anything the movie is about, will stop and watch it anytime it's on.
