Kentucky Fried Chicken [KFC]

In a place like Singapore, it is not very uncommon to spot people having drinks like this.

Majority of the people prefer to drink through the straws.

Most of the cups have ice-cubes, which float on the drink. So drinking with straw makes it easier.
People who take out the meals often consume the drinks while walking. Straws are more convenient for that purpose as it is hard to open the lid, drink and close the lid frequently.
Even people who dine-in, carry the drink after their meal and prefer to have it slowly as they go.
So, unknowingly, straws actually became an important part of the lifestyle and they are synonymous to convenience. For years, fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Subway, KFC and Burger King served drinks with straws.

But then, one day KFC took this step.
KFC banned straws for both dine in and take out, and plastic caps for dine-in drinks.

It is such a positive and great step from KFC, that will benefit environment a lot and inspire lot of restaurants and customers.

However, at this moment, this step has an affect on their profits as people find it inconvenient to consume takeout drinks without straws. I have seen lot of people cancel the drink after noticing the ‘Sorry, We don’t serve straws anymore’ replies.

The team at KFC would have thought about this. Yet they went ahead to make the environment safer and cleaner.

and soda refills declined and Profits rose happily ever after.
The End.

I dislike straws and very rarely use them.

The ice is at the top and therefore the coldest part of the drink is at the top.

Using a straw the drink is not nearly as cold.

Soda not so bad but I refuse to drink tea with a straw.

It is a hygiene thing. Ever notice the way employees handle your cups? Palms riding the rim?

By 2022, the U.S. is projected to consume $600 million worth of single-use straws annually, according to market research Freedonia Group.

Here in Texas we have these things called trash cans. Can’t Californian’s just use a dang trash can? Preferably one in California.

It occurred to me the other day that I've probably never used a straw that later ended up in the ocean.

What are you people doing?

I can remember when straws were made of paper. They worked just fine!

And I agree with Woodman and the hygiene thing!

Plastic straws are recyclable.

The issue is that the machinery that recycles the material isn’t designed to collect the straws. They fall through and get discarded.

I've been traveling SE Asia the last couple of weeks and many places have no plastic straws. Paper straws are the worst, they fall apart in the drink in 15 seconds.
Several places have bamboo straws, these are awesome.

that entire "OMG straws are polluting the oceans" crap was jumped started by a spurious science fair project by a nine year old kid. His only research was contacting straw manufacturers to find out how many they produced.

Well, it is proven that people drink much less at restaurants without a straw.

There is no good substitute for a plastic straw and can't see how it's any worse than the billions of plastic water bottles people drink in the US where a lot of them don't get recycled. The paper straws absolutely, positively, SUCK. It pisses me off when a restaurant doesn't have plastic straws.

Have a bin strictly for straws ...
There's An answer and it isn't banning straws.
Humm.. I seeing a business being created.

PS. Garbage gets dumped in the ocean by the billions of tons. That is where the straws & plastics are coming from into our water.
