HRK, I think there's already a thread in Suppressed Weapons about getting past first round pope.

I don’t think anyone expected them to get to 2/3 on the first ballot.

The site gives some insight on the players:

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I just pray that it's not Parolin. He would be worse than his predecessor.

Sarah or Burke (both unlikely due to Sarah's age and Burke's nationality) would be my choice.

I'm not Catholic anymore but the process is kind of interesting. I don't care who they choose .

Don’t take this the wrong way, but you should.

Papal influence goes far beyond the Catholic Church.

Francis was a socialist, progressive, globalist.
He did a lot of damage, not just to the Church.

Cardinal Parolin is his understudy. Cardinal Parolin is a modernist progressive with a globalist vision, a pragmatist who will place ideology and diplomatic solutions above hard truths of the faith. With an ecclesial and political outlook similar to Francis, he is seen as a natural successor to the current pope if cardinal electors wanted a continuity figure, someone expected to pursue many, if not all, of Francis’ radical reforms but in a quieter, subtler, and more diplomatic manner.

A lady I was talking to yesterday said that she was using a betting service to put a wager on who would be selected, kind of surprised me. I guess you can bet on anything.

With the Conclave for choosing the next Pope now in session, I can't help but remember the great comedian and actor Scoey Mitchell, who passed away a couple of years ago at age 92.

Stay with me, this is a great story.

Mitchell did standup in his early years, and on the Ed Sullivan Show one night in 1969 (I was watching), he did this one-man routine and brought the house down. I'm paraphrasing how it went because I can't remember word-for-word, but it was something like this:

(Mitchell is playing a teenager and the friend he has with him. I'll call him "Billy" and his friend "Jimmy." They're doing a walking tour in Rome)

---

Billy and Jimmy are walking around Rome and they come up to a part where there are a lot of old broken buildings and what looked like a street. Billy says, "Jimmy, what's that old place there?" Jimmy flips the pages of his tour book and says, "Hmmm, book says it's the Forum. People shopped there, made speeches there, everybody went there. Like Times Square."

They walk a couple of blocks and see this huge building that's round and falling apart. Billy asks Jimmy what that place is. Jimmy starts going through the tour book, looks up at the building, and says, "Book says this is the Colosseum."

Billy says, "That looks like a stadium! Who plays there?" Jimmy says, "Nobody any more. Book says they used that for races, somethin' called 'Gladiator fights,' and---uh, putting people to death." They decide to walk in a different direction.

Pretty soon they get to a place that's got a huge church and lots of cool buildings. Billy says, "This place looks really nice and look at all the people all around! What's this?" Jimmy goes through his book and says, "This here is---lessee, this is St. Peter's Square...wow, what a big place. And there's another building over there that's called...the Vatican, whatever that is."

Billy says, "Gee, I wonder who lives there." Jimmy flips a few pages in his book. Finally, he reads, "Says here the Pope lives there." Billy asks, "Who the heck is the Pope?"

Jimmy flips another couple of pages. "Uh...this says the Pope is the head of the Catholic Church." Billy stares at the Vatican for a minute and asks, "How do you get to be Pope?" Jimmy goes back to his book and flips a few more pages, then stops.

"Says here the Cardinals elect the Pope."

Billy's eyes get real big and he yells,

"The Cardinals??? WHY THE HECK CAN'T THE GIANTS DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT FOR WILLIE MAYS?????"
