egregoreIs it legal to rent a storage unit in your state and then live there?
Could one
buy the storage complex and then live in an office/apartment on the premises? Or a barter arrangement (in exchange for managing the complex) for live-in privileges? That's the only way I can think of, as no storage units I've ever seen have bathroom facilities.

220-9erAnyone considering living in a storage unit probably doesn't give much consideration to what's legal.
Usually drugs and alcohol factor in there somewhere.

Or bad gambling addictions.
Knew a guy that lived in one for three months with his wife.
Had a full time job, but already lost his lake house, sold his dad's business, and even bet (and lost) their '57 Bel-Air.
Some things just aren't meant to be understood

No, usually storage units aren’t zoned residential. But, which that’s “illegal” it’s generally only a violation of City/county ordinance.

SpeedbirdProperty owner probably prohibits it (100% if it is a national chain/franchise). Locally owned and operated, you might be able slip under the radar for a while if you lay low.
Back in the last century, when the dinosaurs ruled the earth

- My rock band tried to rent one for [loud] practice (Denied)
- My buddy, an aspiring carpenter/ cabinet maker was able to fashion one into a small workshop where he also stored half his stuff. (Pretty sure he slept there 1-2 nights a week). He was successful, but it was definitely a locally owned smaller place in an industrial area
