MAC all the way.

After getting burned by Sony PC (Vista OS) that lasted two years and a Gateway desk top PC that broke just out of warranty.

Since 2003, I never had a MAC computer go belly up.

Pay more, but go MAC!

+Mac Mini and buying a monitor is probably going to be cheaper overall, plus you can find a monitor that fits you and/or computer space.

As most have said, You’d hate going pc from where you’re at.

My 2008 iMac still works flawlessly but is now becoming limited to its older OS.

Ten years is a heck of a run in the technology world.

I’m going iPad Pro now (turning in my old ipad 2 and waiting to see if there new iOS can do what I need) but may replace my iMac later this year if not.

Another mac mini + monitor recommendation. I love my new iMac but I hate giving away such a nice display when the computer is EOL.

First question is this: is your current Mac not doing something that you need done?

It's simple really. If you get a PC you will spend more time "maintaining" it than a Mac. You have a Mac and I'm guessing it's been trouble free (no virus, malware, etc.) and no s/w or h/w issues. PCs are much better than they used to be but I'll always be a Mac guy. I've supported both and Mac is my favorite.

You can save a little money by getting a refurb. Go to the bottom of the Apple.com page and click on "refurbished and clearance" All work done by apple and same warranty as new.

The wife and I just bought the 27” Imac Pro. Love it.

I am beyond happy with my 21.5" i5 iMac.

The company bought me a new iMac and I use it with an external 27" monitor, which I also have my personal MBP connected to - I have a switch which allows me to swap it between them.

If I had it to do over again, I would ask for Mac Mini and 2 x 27 inch monitors. I have an older Mini for the kids and they love it, very small and no-nonsense.

Nothing really wrong with the iMac, just not impressing me, as my 2014 MBP seems to beat it in every way. Even when I use the iMac, I primarily use the external monitor instead of it's display.

The mini mac and refurbs look like 2 options I should check out.

Recently bought a Mid 2011 21.5 i5 iMac from Macofalltrades and am still learning things about it but over all have been very happy with it. Only thing is mouse hangs up at times and won't scroll but al little alcohol on a paper towel will usually get it going again for a while. Just wish new ones were not as expensive as they are.

All in all I would not go back to the Windows platform unless I had absolutely no other choice.

Just remember that not all the software you are using will transfer your docs unless in PDF form.I loved Claris Works but not everything would roll over into Pages till converted. Do your homework first. I didn't and now can't see some of my older docs. Ever since Steve Job's sickness & death the company does some strange stuff like not being as seamless as before. Chris

I'd definitely get another Mac. We have both Windows PCs and a Mac in the family. Between my wife, son and parents, I am frequently asked to troubleshoot one of the PCs for some kind of problem, usually something simple or virus/malware. Windows 10 with the constant updates are kind of irritating to me. I'm the only Mac user (but use Windows at work). The Mac I've had since 2011 has been fast and trouble free the entire time. I use CleanMyMac every once in a while, and that's it.

Disclaimer: If my father or wife touched my Mac, it would probably be screwed up too. They have a knack for it.

 
The Mac Mini is a great solution, because you can pick your own monitor and keep that to use later or on another machine (make sure to get an IPS panel). The two Thunderbolt ports make this little machine worthwhile. Since TB also carries a DisplayPort signal, you can use one port to power a monitor up to 2560x1440 resolution (27" or 30" monitor), as long as the monitor has a DisplayPort input. Use the other TB port for a TB dock, and you get increased ports, if you need them (USB 3.0, Gigabit ethernet, HDMI, sound in and out).
 
My only reservation about the Mini is that it has been 3 years since it has been updated. If you don't need the latest and greatest, the 2014 Mini is a good buy. You can upgrade the RAM yourself (to 16GB), and also upgrade the HDD to an SSD yourself (plenty of videos out there to show the way). In fact, the "new" Mini, if they ever get around to updating it, may not be nearly as user upgradeable.

On the 2014 Mac Mini the RAM is apparently soldered to the mainboard and is no longer user upgradable. As a long time mini fan, this is one of the reasons I'm still using my 2012 model.


New Mac Mini Restricts Upgrades

My late 2012 i5 Mac Mini caused me problems, but I found that it was the wrong RAM sold to me at Best Buy. It runs perfectly with the new 16 gb RAM, and I'd get another late 2012 if and when it dies.

I despised Windows 8, which drove me to Mac, but Windows 10 is bearable. Even so, I only use my Windows machines to print with since we have a few print programs installed and not on the Mac.

I have bought several refurb Macs from Apple. Only have had probs with machines I bought new! Not the refurbs.

Comes with a 1 year warranty and you can still purchase Apple Care for it. Not to mention saving a couple hundred bucks.
