I just saw post elsewhere (that shall not be named: fartbook). Bill is retiring but others intend to continue running the business.

Nice to learn that news. I think solid businesses like C&S need to endure to keep the culture alive and well.

GREAT NEWS!

If you thing about it, C&S is one of the big names in Gunsmithing. Especially with BHP's. Looking around, there's not too many great Gunsmiths left. I'm happy that the legacy and knowledge is continuing on.

Good to hear.
I'm seeing many business owners who are hitting retirement age, some have made sure to set themselves up so they can walk away when they're ready; either having a key employee get equity in the business or, purchase it outright, usually a combination or, just making sure there's some succession planning. Then there's those small business owners who aren't good planners.

Perhaps Bill figured he just lock the doors and that'd be it. Luckily some employees got together, went to the bank, hired a CPA and put together an offer.

That’s great news, and I hope C&S continues to get plenty of business. I can see some saying “well, Bill isn’t there anymore, so it’s not really Cylinder & Slide.” Having worked at a few comparable places, there’s no secrets kept by the “master” and all the apprentices end up knowing everything he knows if they’re all diligent about preserving the line of knowledge.

That’s exactly how I feel about it as well.

Hope Bill is doing OK. I saw him at the SHOT Show about 5 years ago talking to Les Baer and Bill was in a wheelchair.
