Cedar exterior stain recommendation needed
We have a cedar sided cabin that needs staining.

We want the best. It’s taken us two years to find a painter but he’s leaving the materials to me.

We have used Benjamin Moore for paint in all our homes over the years. Our current stain lasted 8 years but I can’t remember what we used.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks all.

I had a 2 1/2 story cedar home in the Georgia mountains. When I bought it, it was badly in need of stain. I went with Bear solid stain from Home Depot. That cedar really sucked in the stain. The stain lasted several years.

A friend of mine swore by Sikkens (not sure that is how it is spelled) he was into wood deeply with his custom furniture business.

We had a house that was cedar, when I was a teen. Dad mixed some kinda metal powder in the grey stain and we sprayed it on. He said it would make all the boards look like they were aged and the powder was to keep away mold…iirc it was just stain from Benjamin Moore

I’ve used a product called TWP on T-111 siding on a shed as well as on several decks. It looked good and was long lasting. It can be challenging to find.

I always used Cabot but they got bought out.
They went eco friendly and are not as good

My paint store says California stains are the closest that Cabot used to be.

I use Sashco Transformation on my log siding.

Nine years and going strong (except on the south side which needs doing next spring).

I've had good experience with Ready Seal on cedar posts.

Make sure to clean the surface with a mold and mildew remover first. rinse very well

Especially important if using an oil based product. You feed it, then suffocate and kill the colonies and end up with black spotches all over
