B&H, Adorama, KEH. Good prices can be found on EBay, but be sure to check the seller's rating and remember that if the price sounds too good to be true, it's probably grey market (or stolen).

B&H all the way. I have been buying from them for almost 40 years, way before the internet, when they had a seedy storefront store on 34th street whenever I was in NYC.

Thanks for all the recommendations everyone.
I have been looking at B&H website and it looks like they have many choices at good prices.
As soon as B&H was mentioned I remember them from back when I was looking for my first camera back in the 80s. I grew up in east central N.J. and my neighbor had mentioned them to me.
Now we have to decide on the camera we want to replace the one that not working properly anymore.
Once again thank you for all the help.

Another vote for B&H and Adorama. Haven’t used Adorama much recently since they started collecting sales tax.

BH collects sales tax now too, BUT if you have and use their “PayBoo” store card, you get an instant credit equal to the charged sales tax amount so effectively no tax, and since they did collect it no moral dilemma about not self-reporting to your state revenue folks.

If you end up deciding on Canon, serious money can be saved via www.cpricewatch.com

They basically arrange “group buy” pricing with legit Canon dealers. Send a few emails and you are out in touch with a seller.

I’ve done it several times, all on the up and up.

Most recent example, Canon M6 Mark II camera, 18-150mm lens, electronic viewfinder $1349+tax everywhere, BH, Adorama, Amazon.

Ordered a week ago, it arrived Monday from a Canadian Camera chain for $1049, no tax, free shipping.

Usually only have deals on the “enthusiast” and pro gear, not the starter stuff or point and shoots.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

All I am doing is repeating what everyone else has said:

B&H And Adorama would be my first, and usually only, stops. B&H can have some oddball things for great prices, we purchase plotter paper From B&H for the printers in our computer lab.

What a timely topic.

I bought a Nikon D3100 maybe 6 years ago. It was what I felt comfortable spending at the time.

But it has its shortcomings, including not having a remote shutter release.

I'd like to buy a Nikon body that has better features.

The D3100 does take good pics.

I wonder how it would be best to sell the D3100 body.

I will look at the above listed recommendations for a new or gently used better body.

Thanks for the topic and the responses.

We have an excellent local store here in Dallas, and I have bought (and rented) my stuff from them -- Competitive Camera downtown. I did recently (last year) buy a refurbished lens directly from Nikon.

I'll advocate finding a local quality shop. I've bought from B7H and Adorama before when it was something that I was familiar with. Otherwise, nothing really beats getting to lay hands on a potential major purchase before buying it. Then there also the advice and experience from an in person interaction. Check with the big internet retailers to keep your local shop honest.

I've used Stewart's Photography here in Anchorage and they have been awesome. Prices have been competitive and their service has been excellent. They're suggestions on gear even minor things such as a mononpod have always worked out well.

Honestly, you won't get much for the 3100. Keep it as a backup or as another lens platform. I rarely use my Nikon D7100 since I bought my D7500 But it's there as a backup and it usually hosts my 200-500 zoom while I'm using my D7500 for something else.

Adorama and B&H will typically give you between 50 and 60% of what they sell it for used. Adorama has an E- condition D3100 for $79, so you would get less than $50 - not worth selling it.

If you are looking to stay within the Nikon ecosystem, you can step way up and get a used D800 in very good condition for less than $700 (https://www.adorama.com/us%20%20%201290905.html), it is full frame, is more advanced than the last APS-C flagship (D7200), yet costs less than am APS-C D7500.

I count myself fortunate that here in the DC area, we still have several small brick and mortar photo shops (very small compared to Adorama and B&H). I give them first op for my business. That said, I have done business with Adorama and have been treated well.

I've gotten several old copies of Popular Photography and magazines stashed away. It's a treat once in a while to get one out and just go through the ads, and window shop.

Once again thank you every one for your help.

After researching several cameras a decision has been made and a camera has been purchased.
The camera is the Nikon D3500 DSLR. It is an up grade from what my wife and I have been using for the last several years.
I looked at B&H and they had great prices for the camera with a basic equipment bundle however my local BJs wholesale club had the same camera with a better equipment bundle for about the same price.

Thanks everyone.

I'm certainly no expert, but some great advice I received a few years ago was to get the book "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Petersen.

Best wishes to you.

I have bought from B&H for years. Generally, first place I look. Have bought from Adorama on occasion. Bought used, like new, from KEH and Kenmore Camera. Have had good buying experience with Roberts Camera in Indianapolis (https://robertscamera.com/). They also have a used equipment site, link is on their home page. Good folks to deal with.
