I agree.
You don't want to be that guy.

I third the motion.
Nothing screams "I'm a wanna be poser" more than blasting music on a motorcycle. Get a helmet system like Cardo or something.

I’m glad to not be the only person who thinks a motorcycle with blaring music is obnoxious. Just like a car or truck.

Do these helmet speakers come into direct contact with your ears? Reason is headphones earbuds whatnot can only be used in one ear in FLA

For 8 years, I used a Gold Wing stock sound system with a wire connected to J&M speakers mounted into a Shoei full face helmet.

I'm now faced with using aftermarket sound systems on the BMW with Bluetooth.

IMO, the wire system is better than Bluetooth.

Thanks I'd prefer wire too but my new phone and many newer ones no longer have the ability to plug in.

There are often repeated truisms on what is legal and not legal.

If you read the Virginia statute on sound piped into your ears, it is easy to confuse that having the sound directed to both ears is illegal. But, the statute does allow communication devices, which of course the sound system truly is, as there is a microphone and you can communicate with other riders and on a phone.

Florida allows speakers as long as they do not contact the ear directly. Most speakers are, as I related earlier, properly installed UNDER the cloth covering the styrofoam that touches your ears. So, by inspection, any officer will find that your sound system does NOT touch your ears, and is therefore legal.

Looking at the kuryakyn road thunder but don't really trust the reviews and it's pricey to the point I might as well go to a shop. As most of us my hearing is poor but I typically had no issue with systems in fairings ('01 Wing and '07 Street Glide).

Pipes are stock so it's not loud.

Any suggestions?

For the price I would probably give those a try. Granted I have a 2011 street glide with fairing stock radio and front fairing only speakers which provide me all I need. And I'm not compensating for anything. But I do like to listen to some tunes as I cruise with half helmet. It's hot in South Florida and part of the enjoyment is the wind when ridding. Any way a buddy of mine with a 16 heritage classic with windscreen on used the Harley version of those. He never complained or wanted to upgrade. Wasn't obnoxious when i road behind him or he pulled up next to me. We're both over 50 so hearing has degraded.

Thanks hray. I am also looking at some of the BOSS systems. I had a volusia with a set up like that, it had an amp under the seat. Worked pretty well, almost as well as a fairing stereo. However, some people claim the BOSS components don't stand up to weather well.

Not to keen on the helmet systems, don't need an intercom, just tunes, plus speakers too close to my ears aren't right for me. Most likely will add another amp to the internal amps on whatever system I get.

They pulling folks over and checking for that shit. Like, they make you remover your helmet and measure to see if it contacts your ears?

I have JBL helmet speakers (not earplugs) in my Arai, wired with a jack for my iPhone (which rests in my left inside jacket pocket, so the wires are invisible as they sneak of the bottom of my helmet down into the neck of my jacket and into the pocket). The speakers are meant to be touching (not pushing against) your ears, otherwise the volume is all but lost. In fact, I have a leather "shoehorn" (used through the eye cutout) to fold back the tops of my ears which typically are folded down my the speakers as I pull my helmet on. It works well, but with an odd state law like one ear only, I don't believe they'd be particularly useful...more pleasing to your neighbors, certainly, but almost surely ineffective, especially if, as you mention, you have an open-face helmet, since the wind noise would be too much.

Sena makes good helmet comm products, they also have speakers that go inside your helmet and they are legal everywhere, and if they are not, who would know anyway since they use BT, no wires and the speakers go inside pockets in helmets.

If you ride with a half helmet then there are pockets that accept the speakers and they slide into the helmet, popular with HD riders.

My bike came with two sets of speakers and microphones that attach to the bikes comm system for rider and passenger, has intercom, music, cb, connection to phone. Nothing illegal about it.
