So I have a bunch of photos on a couple of smart phones that I want to move from the device storage to a desk top and them burn them on to a cd.

Is this a viable option. If so, how do I do?

Better options like transferring to a scandisk card?

Again how does that work.

Better options yet?

Thanks guys and gals.

can you just connect the USB cable from your phone to your computer such that it comes up as a removable drive?

There are wireless ways to do it, some of which will sync such as Google photos, but I get the feeling a USB cable might be the simple way to go.

The cable may bring up the phone as a "storage device" on your desktop screen. You would click on it as if it were a folder. There may be Bluetooth connectivity between the devices which might do the same thing. When I take pictures with my iPhone they automatically upload into iCloud and appear on my laptop's Photos application.

When I plug my phone into the laptop it makes me jump thru hoops, opening in iTunes. The Photos folder does not appear. Instead I am directed to my Photos application (where the photos already are).

My last phone, a Sanyo rotary-dial cell phone, was complete garbage; I'm sure Sprint had something to do with that; even the Sprint tech, a total live-at-home thirty-something tech wizard/geek, could not download my content when I transferred to an iPhone (he said it was an interesting problem) Smile . Before that was a Motorola Razr3, completely the bomb as far as phones went. Wirelessly connected with my laptop to share photos. And I believe, if plugged in, the phone content was visible on the laptop like a "regular folder of files".

Depends. What are the phones (iOS/Android/something else)? What is the desktop (OSX/Windows/Linux)? All kinds of variations in there with different solutions.

If the usb cable option doesn't work, you could always set up a cloud drive and move them from your phone to there and then download them to your computer.

Look into Google Photos.

I don't do volumes of photos but when I want a single one I email it to myself. But I also have my camera roll backed up to Flickr automatically and Flickr set on private. So I can easily view and download what I want.

USB cable as noted above. Simple drag and drop to where you want them.

If you have a DVD burner, burn them that way rather than CD. Much more space.

Better yet, flash drive. Most modern TVs can read those.
