I was waking up 3-5 times a night sometimes even more. No reason I could figure. I’d roll over and be back asleep pretty quickly. Just to wake up a little while later.
Maybe once a month I’d wake up and not get back to sleep as easy. I’d turn on Andy Griffith watch a couple episodes then fall back asleep.
It was pretty annoying.

A few months ago now a random YouTube video popped up in my feed about waking up a bunch a night. Wish I would have saved it but did not. Guy said he was a neurologist or something.

He said if you have a cell phone next to your bed/head to get it away. I had it on the night stand right next to the bed.
So it is all the way on the other side of the room now.

He said don’t look at the clock or your watch when if you wake up.
So I stopped looking at the clock

He said stop getting up to go to the bathroom as most of the time you really did not actually need to go it was just a response to waking up.
I did not get up to go to the bathroom so did not alter this.

Also said not to check your phone when you woke up. I did not really do this but now that the phone is across the room that is simple enough.

Said don’t watch TV. I did not really do that except that occasion where I could not get back to sleep was was just tossing and turning.

There were a few other things he suggested but they were nothing I did and I have forgotten those.

Going about 3 months with simply moving the phone and not checking the clock. And I pretty much sleep through the night every night now.
I have woken up on occasion here or there but nothing like before and so far no times have I woken up and not been able to get back to sleep where I would turn on Andy.

All the time. Can you look in your you tube history and find the video possibly? I’d love to see it.

I’m up at least once during the night. Tonight it was 2. Midnight and 4:30. I typically get up between 5-6am so will stay up.

I can’t just go back to bed if I wake up. My body is not settled. If I do, I’ll toss for a while. I need to be up for about 30 minutes before I can fall asleep again. Kind of annoying.

I wake every time I roll over, dunno why, it’s been like that for decades. I’m consciously holding the blanket down to keep it from coming off. I can trace this action to sleeping aboard ships in the service. The sleeping compartments were literally 50°.

Having the stroke has given me “daytime sleepiness” one of my docs listed all my stroke induced issues when I was filing paperwork to medically retire. So no matter if I had eight hours of uninterrupted sleep, I’m still yawning all day and tired constantly.

I don’t sign in and took a quick peek in the settings and do not see a video history.

Typically just for “midnight munchies”. PBJ and big glass of milk and I’m out again quickly. Last night it was yogurt and milk

Wake up to pee. Usually twice a night, sometimes once, sometimes three times.

Sometimes that leaves me wide awake; I get back in bed and read with Kindle. I'll wake up hours later, with the Kindle on my chest.

I did much the same years ago and it helped immensely. My phone has ringer and vibration turned off, and I don't have a clock of any kind in the room to look at. I was surprised to find that not knowing what time it is and subsequently not worrying about getting enough sleep makes it much easier to fall back asleep.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

I didn't understand WHY one needs to put the Cell phone away from where you sleep. Perhaps because some folks check it for calls/messages.

Anyway, I'm gonna put my cell in another room tonight and see. I'm having this cute litte habit of waking at 4 in the morning. Grrrrr!

Some of the biggest are caffeine too late in the day, I'm trying to stop before 5PM. I used to do tea at 6-7PM and wake up throughout the night. Another is to hydrate properly throughout the day so you aren't chugging water before bed.

I did all of what you did and still had problems. I started eating about 2 ounces of turkey breast and a half cup of milk before bed. It significantly reduced, but did not eliminate, the waking. My problem is slightly more complex as well, as I am diabetic and experience fairly frequent glucose drops in the wee hours.

I used to wake up almost every hour sometimes a couple times an hour. I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and prescribed a CPAP machine, now I sleep like a baby.

Why would anyone look at their phone if they woke up? That seems an obvious mistake as it "engages" the brain.

Often, when I wake it is specifically because I need to pee, but I am 60, so . . .

See a sleep specialist, they are often pulmonologists. Get a LAB study it is more accurate. They often have a list of things to help with sleep. Smart PCPs always ask about sleep, it is a very sensitive indicator of psycholological issues.

No specific reason why was stated in the video.
I wondered if it has to do with radio waves or electromagnetic fields.
Don’t have a clue. Just know I moved the phone way away and in the event I do wake up which is very rare now I don’t check the clock.
These are the only things I have changed and I noticed a difference by the end of the week when I started.

I will state however I don’t find myself any less tired throughout the day.

The video made no mention of actually looking at the phone nor would I look at the phone it was just plugged in and charging on the night stand.
The video just mentioned not having it near you while you are asleep.

I try not to eat too late. Or have caffeine after noon. And a solid workout when I can in the morning. Plus a shower right before bed.

I’m essentially on call in some capacity 24/7, so my phone stays close.

As long as my wife doesn’t snore I usually sleep all night with one or two trips to the bathroom.

Every once in a while I can’t sleep. Rare now. But I did 19+ years on nights or evenings, so my sleep was completely screwed when I finally went to days. Took a bit to get into a routine. I need 8 hours of sleep to feel refreshed.

Also, I use CPAP absolutely every night. Makes the entire thing different. And I use a sound machine and keep the night time temp at 66-67°.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.
