I cannot fathom a scenario where this makes any sense to a normal human being. The people who do things like this just cannot be right in the head.

Shortly after 1:30 pm today a gunman opened fire at a Madden football gaming tournament in Jacksonville. 2 people were killed and 11 people were injured. The gunman then took his own life. The gunman used a semi auto pistol equipped with a laser.

The gunman was a 24 y/o white male (whose name I will never mention) from Baltimore, MD. His car with Maryland plates has been located here and federal LEOs have already raided a residence in Baltimore believed to be the gunman’s.

One of the victims that was killed was from CA, the other was from WV. They were both in town for the tournament. I do not know if the injured were local or from out of town but apparently this tournament in a big deal in the gaming world. Early reports had the gunman in the tournament and was eliminated just prior to the shooting but has not been widely reported so I do not know how reliable that is.

I have many thoughts on what the details will revel about the gunman but I will wait until the facts are known to see how close to the mark I am.

I'll be the first to say it: Maybe some of these video games aren't so harmless after all. Maybe they really do affect the brain.

People always want to pin a cause for crazy.

Crazy is a universe all it's own, and them what live in it, cannot be figured out, unless you become as crazy as them, for that is the tool with which you troubleshoot.

I visited that universe and decided to get the hell out of it, long ago.

I am sorry to hear that this has happened, but I am dreading the knee jerk calls for legislative action from the left (that wouldn't do a damn thing to prevent something like this from reoccurring), and the finger pointing at the "evil" NRA.

Par for the course. Someone shoots people outside of a Democratic ran shithole city, and we need to ban everything. Yet they ignore places like Chicago where this many people die from banned guns multiple times a day.

Homedude was an adult, he's responsible for his own actions. If a video game is what made him decide to shoot a bunch of people, then he was probably going to do it anyways because his order got fucked up at Dennys, or someone cut him off in traffic.

I think these murder suicides should start with the suicide.

I actually agree with you in general, some games may be detrimental to individuals who have mental illness.

But... the game they were playing was Madden NFL... a football game. No blood, gore, killing - that rather goes against your argument, eh?

Sounds like it might not be the game itself and more not being able to handle losing in a public and very competitive situation. Other there were saying he was kind of weird and would not shake hands. Evil comes in many forms and best to have a plan on personally how to defend one's self from it.

Article described him as a 'professional gamer'. I'm assuming that means he made his income off these tournaments. Given he was wearing the same clothes the second day, and his car was nearby, I'm gonna guess he was having money issues (possibly spent the night in his car) and HAD to win the event. Still living with his parents I guess, as the FBI 'raided' their home later. So I bet he was told to make this his last tournament and go find a real job. And that was something he was ill equipped to do.
