CSA (Common Sense Advice): Don't mess around with critters than can kill and/or eat you.

I've seen pythons and boas in action and while incredibly strong, they don't move at particular rattlesnake-like speed, so I have to think that this guy liked being wrapped up in a living straight jacket-cum-garotte, which, given the photo below seems to be the case.

The folks I knew who owned constrictors all seemed to delight in getting squeezed by their reptilian roommates and chided me for not wanting the damned thing near me.

Gives me the willies just thinking about it.

A snake lover in the U.K. has been found suffocated to death near his pet python, according to news reports.

Dan Brandon

The Sun reports that Dan Brandon, 31, was found at his home in Church Crookham, Southern England, in the room in which he kept his snakes. His pet python was out of its pen.

Authorities confirmed Monday that Brandon died of asphyxiation, according to The Sun. An investigation has been launched into whether the python was involved in Brandon’s death. The Telegraph reports that, if the python did kill Brandon, it would be the first case of its kind in the U.K.

Brandon was an experienced snake handler, according to The Independent.

Images posted to social media show Brandon with a number of snakes, including a large yellow Burmese python.

The Guardian reports that a JustGiving fundraising page has been set up in Brandon’s memory to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund. “On August 25th Dan unexpectedly passed away at home,” explained his friend, John Cottrell, on the page. “He was obsessed with snakes, spiders, birds and all wildlife, in his memory we have set up two fundraising pages, one for WWF and one for RSPB.”

“We have struggled when looking for photos for his funeral to find any when he isn't holding a spider, snake, small bird, toad, slow worm, hedgehog, feeding a fox, stroking cattle, befriending a cat or dog so these charities seemed the perfect choice. In memory of you Dan.... who we will all miss SO much,” Cottrell added.

Play with fire...

There was a fellow in Wilmington, NC, that was a snake guy. Professional. Had a snake/reptile museum that was nothing less than amazing.

He had the honor of possessing the largest population of breeding Bushmasters in captivity in the world, and, coincidentally, held the title of surviving the most Bushmaster snake bites and surviving (7).

His psycho wife shot and killed him a few months ago. Bet you didn't expect that, and neither did he!

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Reminds me of that tool called "Grizzly Man" who wound up getting himself and his girlfriend eaten by grizzly bears, even though he was considered (by some) to be a experienced bear handler.

"experienced" doesn't necessarily mean "intelligent".

I noticed it read he was an experienced snake handler, doesn't mention him being a smart one though. Wink

That yellow Burmese is about the borderline right size to do it, especially wrapped around your NECK - an incredibly powerful animal. LOC in about 60 seconds, nature does the rest. Of course, it couldn't actually eat you, until it gets a little bigger. Perhaps there is another snake fancier about....
