Ok... There's a board game with a bell. When putting the game away a debate ensues as to whether or not the bell goes in right side up or upside down.

One party says the button will stick up too far and hit the lid when it is put on so it should go upside down.

The other party says it will not hit the lid.

A debate ensues and a bet is made. The lid has a hole in it so when you put the lid on, the button sticks up past the height of the lid but does not hit because it sticks up through the hole.

However, if you turn the lid around it does hit the lid because the hole doesn't line up that way.

I won't add the third option of this is stupid because you were warned in the title.

Question:
Who wins?

Choices:
The hole allows it to stick up higher and not hit. Winner.
Direction of lid was never specified. It hits the other way. Winner.

Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

For what other reason would a box have a hole in...

The first rule about the bell is to not talk about the bell.

If the bell rings and no one is there to hear it, does it really make a sound?

Find a round hollow piece of tube slightly larger than the button and place it over the button before storage.
Becomes a non-issue but fails to resolve who wins the bet!

Is it a game currently in production?
Look for it online and perhaps a product photo will help???

But the real question is...

For Whom doth the bell toll?

Did the game come with the lid with the hole in it for the bell, or was the hole put in there by the purchaser to accommodate the bell put in the wrong way?

It would seem that the manufacturer wouldn't make a board game box that is unstackable, as it wouldn't be with something sticking out the top.

How are you gonna ding the bell (and annoy your wife/kids) if said bell is imprisoned in the box w/o the button sticking out?

Put the lid on the wrong way. Smash your hand down hard. Now there’s a hole either way. Your argument wins.
