Would love to try one of those. According to their marketing, it "can stop a car in its tracks". Big Grin

The non-cop version was the Mag 10, and they were popular with goose hunters right after the lead-shot ban was imposed on waterfowl hunting. The 10 bore made up for the relatively poor performance of steel shot goose loads that were available then. They were huge, weighed over 11 pounds, and had a recoil reducing device in the mag tube.

Here is a list of gun shops generally easy to access that you might consider visiting:

Collectors Firearms - as the boss highlighted, its like a museum that you can buy from
Fountain Firearms - IH-10 then south on HWY 6 past Bissonet
Full Armor Gun shop/range - IH -10 corridor (11911 Katy Frwy)
Spring Guns and Ammo - IH-10 then North on IH-45 West on Spring Cypress (range and rental guns)
AGR Outdoors - IH-10, Loop 610, North on 290
Shoot Point Blank - South of AGR off FM 1960

Gunty clubs (if you want to shoot in style while in town):
Athena on IH-10
Saddle River on 1488 west from IH-45, (smaller retail/range also on Spring Cypress near Spring Guns & Ammo)

Yes. Three locations, I think. Bill Carter is long dead, but his son still runs them, I think. One on I10 near Voss, one on 59 South, and the other, the one with the ranges, on the north out in the woods between Humble and Spring, on Treaschwig Road. (It isn't so much woods any more - there has been a lot of development.) They are good gun stores, and also have a fair amount of hunting and reloading gear.

They all have some interesting hunting trophies, too, if you like to see those. Bill Carter hunted anything that walked. The Treaschwig location probably has the most of them. He shot some giant whitetails, but there are animals from everywhere.

I've not been to the other 2, but have probably been to the Treaschwig store a half dozen times in the last 5 years.

When I bought my P11 there, they had pretty good prices on new guns.
They were also one of the only places locally that stocked the 270WIN that I use in my Tikka, since the Gander on 45N shut down.

Many thanks, guys. I made it to Collector's Firearms and all I can say is "Wow". I've never been in a place like that. I started off at one end of the store and methodically worked my way to the other side. By the time I got there I was a little punchy from sensory overload. As for the pricing, yes, they charge dearly. Perhaps one day I will be able to afford to buy there.

Jhe888, thank you for your kind offer to meet up there. I did not contact you because I thought I was not going to be able to make the trip. Fortunately, a last minute change enabled me to fly in at the last moment. I'm planning to come back next year so perhaps we can get together then.
