The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
I had mine out around 36. The operation was not an issue but I had problems healing. At the pre-op, the surgeon told me that about 2% of people have troubles with it. On my way home. Sore, but not too bad yet.

The Main Thing Is Not To Get Excited |
Good for you. Mine came out at 20. I had been plagued with 'tonsilitus' my whole short life and that ended that. A little sore and lots of chocolate swirl. Best news is, I still have a taste for chocolate swirl. _______________________

Isn’t there a procedure where the just suck out the internals and the outer shell is left to die off? Promoted to be less trauma and pain than the old methods? Heard about it several years ago… did that ever become a thing or SOP? Collecting dust.

A Beautiful Mind |
I had mine out at age 18 and it was no fun at all! Dr. prescribed a very large bottle of codeine liquid pain meds, so it was a very mellow start to the summer. Good Luck! “The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane, and intolerable...” ― H.L. Good luck to you. My son had it done when he was around 7 or 8 as he would get sick a lot and we were told by more than one doctor/specialist, it could be cancer causing his illnesses. We finally found a great pediatrician and she diagnosed him right away and after his procedure, his resilience to infections now is unreal. He hardly ever gets sick now. On a side note, he also became sick of having to eat only soft foods for a while but we became quite the chefs. Some of the items we made were not bad but I don't recommend the beefy-macaroni shake.

Praying for a quick recovery. Had a friend who had her's out at 24 and it was miserable. Take your time recovering and enjoy a full ice cream and chocolate mousse diet for a week or so.

Not a fun morning so far, but it is still nothing compared to a septoplasty that I had to have several years ago.

Lecture alert: The tissue in your throat is mucous membrane. Mucous membrane is supposed to be wet, slimy, slippery and flexible. All of these properties are affected by your state of hydration. Dry, non-flexible mucous membrane hurts more. When you have your tonsillectomy, the doctor will use electrocautery to stop the bleeding where the tonsils were. Electrocautery is essentially a very specific, targeted burn. When you burn mucous membranes, it hurts (of course). So, when you wake up after surgery, your throat will hurt. The problem is that folks tend not to drink (since it hurts to swallow) as much as they normally do, and they become dehydrated. Dehydration quickly leads to stiff, less flexible mucous membranes which makes it even more difficult to swallow and this will lead to more dehydration. It can become a vicious circle. The short version ...... try as hard as you can, to drink as much fluid as you can. It won't take the pain away, but it will make it more tolerable in the long run. Don't let yourself become dehydrated. Best wishes, mike

Hope you're feeling better, very soon. Meantime, listen to some good upbeat music, maybe some Prokofiev(Lieutenant Kije, or Classical Symphony), but don't sing along with it. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Outstanding! Now take it easy and enjoy those popsicles and milkshakes! No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Little ray of sunshine |
Good luck. I had mine out when I was in kindergarten. I didn't think the initial shot of anesthesia would do anything, and I remember telling the nurse that. Next thing I knew, I woke up briefly in the ER and the mask went over my face. Next thing, I was back in my room. I don't remember it being too bad, but it was a while ago. I had mine done at 18, the day before Thanksgiving (my parents didn't want me to miss a lot of school). I hope you respond to pain killers. I distinctly recall the sharp pain in the back of my throat. P229

Get well soon, Maestro! 5 words: Blue Bell Mint Chocolate Chip Or go simple...Peanut Butter Smoothie. "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Heal quickly and completely! Had mine out in the days of ether - twice. First time, the "microphone" of ether fooled me and I was out. Woke up to the pain and was not a happy camper. Second time, when the "microphone" was put in my face, I lost it and took out three nurses and was finally caught and subdued by two orderlies in my feral attempt at escape. Ralphing on fresh stitches was not optimum, but that's why we don't use ether these days.
