Its the live streaming version of DirectTZV..my sister loves it. Looks like the $35 per month package is pretty good for what I watch. Sounds like an amazing deal. Also, did you get the free Apple TV or Roku? Thanks JB --------------------------------------- It's like my brain's a tree and you're those little cookie elves.

My only concern is the local channels — can we get those still? _______________ Mind. Over. Matter.

I have been a DirecTV Now subscriber since launch and I really enjoy it. We have AT&T so we can stream it over our phones without using any of our data. I did the 3 month prepay to get the free Apple TV. Since we use our tablet and chromecast I had no need for the Apple TV so I gave it away as a gift. You do not get your local channels, we use an over the air antenna to get those. If you have a fast internet and a good antenna, DirecTV Now is a wonderful program.

I have it and it's OK for the price. It does buffer sometimes but I wonder if that's a flaw in the app because it seems to improve if I restart my Roku3. Netflix and Amazon stream HD with no buffering on the same device, so I know it's not my internet connection, nor the Roku itself. Last I checked, they don't have a full-fledged DVR, at least for all systems. I was offered to beta test their Cloud DVR, but couldn't because it wasn't available yet for Roku. I can pause/rewind some channels, but not all, and so far I haven't found any situations where I could skip commercials. Things could have changed in the several weeks since I got the email about the Cloud DVR. I do get local channels in my area, but usually just switch to my OTA antenna for that.

DirectTV Now is saving me $100 a month over the monopoly cable provider in my town. I got the free FireStick when I signed up. They have added 3 local channels so that allowed me to drop the OTA antenna also. I don’t have any regrets with making the switch. The rare times I see it buffer does not come close to making me want to start paying that $100 a month more again. "Prepared in mind and resources"

Page late and a dollar short |
We have Direct, dropped Uverse. My wife watches more than I do and seems to have no major complaints. We have local channels on our. As long as I can get TCM, NatGeo and A&E I'm happy. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I have had it since they started. I got the introductory offer of $35 a month for their Go Big package which I think now is $60. I use a cheap indoor antenna for the ota local stuff. When it first started it was unwatchable. Constant buffering and the app would crash all the time. For some reason I stuck with it figuring they'd get it fixed and they pretty much have. They sent me the Beta app which has the dvr functions but truthfully they kind of wasted it on me because most of the time I can't find anything I feel I just have to watch and need to dvr it. The Beta app does have a much improved guide however. Seems lately it's been buffering more than usual to the point it's gotten annoying. I'm suspecting my isp might be choking me back during heavy usage times as I'm noticing this more in the early evening hours. If I'm on my lap top I will notice pages loading more slowly at the same time the tv is buffering. While DirecTv Now is not perfect it's more than adequate for a casual tv viewer. If you're serious about your tv viewing you might want to stick with your cable company because the buffering can be annoying. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. I don't know man I just got here myself |
I have had Direct TV now for about 6 months now. No issues and great service. I have one Apple TV and two Fire sticks running it plus apps on my IOS devices and iMac. The Apple TV is a much better platform than the firestick. The fire stick buffers a bit and starting a channel is slow, 5 - 10 seconds. The Apple TV does not buffer and starts a channel within a second or so. The intro offer Direct TV now is running with a free Apple TV is pretty sweet. I get ABC and FOX local channels on direct TV now and use a high def antenna with Silicon Dust HDTV over Ethernet tuner and an app on my devices lets me watch OTA HD local channels. This setup saves me $100 per month over cable.

We've had Direct TV Now for about a month coming off of full blown ATT Uverse 400. Since its not too expensive, to start out we opted to keep Uverse as well but went down to the basic package to give us local channels plus the low end cable channels. At some point we will rethink this. What I like. It's inexpensive even if you want to add HBO which is just $5 month (at least for now) and you do get most of the channels people tend to like. What I don't like. No DVR. Sure a lot of past programs can be gotten via the archives but it's just not as clean and easy as punching over to the DVR section and seeing all of your recorded programs lined up. Also, changing channels and going to the guide has a significant delay. We don't see much buffering, but it does happen occasionally. It's only my wife and I in the house and I imagine if you have a larger family at home using phones, tablets and computers, band width could be taxed. I have had DirecTV Now for over a year. I had to buy a Firestick, which is much better than Chromecast. I only get one local channel. NFL games are not available to me, but that's fine. It seldom buffers on my DSL service. I tried Hulu, but I like DirecTV Now much better. ---------------------------------------------------- Dances with Crabgrass

I had DirectTV but switched to Playstation Vue streaming. Local channels, cloud DVR, up to 9 devices from anywhere. Mid-range package is $45 a month and has more channels than I had with DirecrtTV. Also it's month to month no contract. Happy with the service 2 months in.

They are Beta testing the DVR now, There are 4 packages, 35-100 dollars a month. No commitment, no equipment, no lease. Some local channels. You can only watch 2 screens at a time for now. You can add some premiums(HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Sports pack).

We have had it for a year or more. At that time, you got the 2nd available lineup of channels for $35 month lifetime. It seems to buffer more than I’d like, always at a good part it seems. We don’t get OTA channels but get our local channels and most of the ones I watch anyways. I really miss the GRIT, MeTV channels. And I miss the DVD feature. The 2 TV limit at one time takes a bit to get used to. Just got to make sure it’s out of DTVNOW when you shut TV off. All in all, it’s worth it over the high cost of cable. We have both Apple TV and TVs with ROKU. ROKU is a lot easier and let’s you go through the channel lineup easier. Apple doesn’t let you go from Z to A, you have to back channel through every station to get to A. PIA.

For you DirecTv Now users DVR is coming your way. I've had it for several months now on their Beta app. Not sure when they are going to release it but it's coming. I've used it maybe twice but it is pretty seamless. For buffering issues try this. Go to you app manager. Bring up your DirecTv Now app and go into settings. Force stop it. Then clear the cache. Seems to help quite a bit and only takes a minute to do it. Then again there are times it doesn't help a lick so what do I know! Also you can delete the app and download it again to make certain you have the newest version. "Fixed fortifications are monuments to mans stupidity" - George S. Patton
