go to court

and work should not be hassling you for a court appearance...ask the cop to subpoena you so you can forward it to the boss and then they can't tell you to use vacation/sick/leave

Even after reading your explanation, I do not understand your time off work issue.
This is like jury duty.
Someone tried to run you over while you were on the clock. That person is being charged, and you are a witness/victim or whatever.
You should have a paid day(s) off period.

Just curious, if you say you are traumatized and have PTSD due to the event, will you be able to transfer to a more favorable position?

Only a Fed court can subpoena a Postal/Fed Employee in the context of their employment.

As for him taking time off, you'd had to have worked at USPS to understand. Short of you being dead, they don't want you to take time off and even if you really are dead, they'll probably ask for a coroners certificate of death.

Yeah, they're that bad.

46&2,

As I said, this was on a residential street, with one lane blocked due to parked cars. Where I normally park, the homeowner has been doing house renovations. I park a few feet from the curb, since their yard has been trashed and they have reseeded, and I try to stay off their lawn. On the opposite side, where I was standing is a light pole and fire hydrant. I drive one of the larger Dodge one ton trucks, so it's bigger than a common mail truck. It's a tight fit from both directions with a mailman standing in the middle of it.

When the driver drove past me, he was looking down. I don't believe he even saw me. I know I yelled something at him, but I don't recall what. I kind of did a Bullfighter's "Ole" move, and side stepped so my mailbag didn't get tangled up in his mirror. I did raise my arms when this happened, kind of the common "DUDE DO YOU EVEN SEE ME??? reaction. Even when he backed up, I just kind of stepped to the side. I'm pretty sure he was just a dumbass trying to look tough. But then again, if you've been following the national news, the Pittsburgh Synagogue was shot up by an individual who lived about 2 blocks off my route. That was 2 days earlier, you just don't know anymore.

I did take pictures of where my vehicle was parked right after calling 911 to show the parking situation, where my vehicle was parked, and the direction he was driving. I know they won't use my "guesstimation" of his speed, I'm still saying it was over 50mph in a 25mph residential zone.

Palm, I can suspend mail delivery to his house. I don't feel that is necessary at this point. After I figured out who he was, I kind of feel bad, his parents have been nothing but nice to me in the 3.5yrs I've been on my current route. Even the LEO said to avoid any interaction with kid, so that's what I'll do. I was joking about making him sign for a certified letter. I'll leave a notice, he can pick it up at the Post Office.

USPS?

FOllow through. And call Inspection. They will likely "monitor" the case in local proceedings.

But follow through.

Iit just amazes me the amount of men who send their mommy to fix it for them. Which in its self likely explains this whole issue.

I don't see this happening. Should have taken the harsher route! I.e. the assault on a postal employee route! IMO, that asshole will continue until he kills somebody.

Wait till complaints from his family, about the manner which you deliver to them, start being filed. Wink

Btw - you allowed to wear a body cam? As a public employee, you should be allowed to purchase one (at your own expense) which can record 9+ hours per day. At the end of the day, download the recording and file onto a DVD.

Watch the fun ensue when they file a false claim and you have video/ audio proof.

while I understand your desire not to ruin his life, he was certainly trying to ruin yours

and he's actually never paid the price for his being stupid

I would have done everything I could to have the guy sent away...he's damaged goods and getting another free pass doesn't help society

I had a postal inspector, in a very similar situation (except that it was happening over and over again), basically tell my supervisor that if I hadn't actually been run over, there was nothing they could do. I've been assaulted by three women (at the same time), and the PI came out, checked them for warrants, and left. I've had numerous people threaten to kill me, some with weapons in their hands raised above their heads.... Guess how many were arrested? Zero.

I was almost killed on the job about 3 1/2 years ago, the only thing I got from any entity was a letter from workmans comp wanting an explanation as to why I hadn't recovered their money yet.

The idea that the Fed, in any way shape for form, will back up or protect a postal employee for anything is not grounded in reality.
