Abigail Spanberger Democrat Governor of Virginia
Interesting to see how many new antigun pieces of legislation are enacted and signed into law by the new Governor.

I looked up the voting results of the various counties but there were no real surprises except for Nelson and Greenville County.

Prince Edward, Spotsy and Stafford were close but eventually went D.

I am surprised that Spotsy hasn't been turned full blue by now.
The rot was starting to inch its way down 95 when I worked there from 2004 to 2007.

It really doesn't help that Henrico and Chesterfield is about full blue now. Back in the day, their Red votes would help counter Richmond's Blue.

My first thought when I heard the D's won, was how many and how long until the Guns restriction talks start.

I honestly don't get all of the Angst. Fox news has been talking all morning about possible trouble for the Republicans come 2026.

New York? New Jersey? About as blue as you can get. At one time Virginia was considered purple but with the exodus of Government workers fleeing DC, we all saw this changing.

The Large Metropolitan cities will control the state. We know this. We just need to hang in there.

Exactly. Last night's elections for VA governor, NJ governor, and NYC mayor are not a bellweather for the entire country. They all voted Democrat in 2024 and voted Democrat again last night.

The collective they will continue shooting themselves in the foot until they are fresh out of feet.

I have no trouble believing they will then continue with kneecaps.

And how many court cases get filed.

Probably a lot. I've read (here, maybe?) that Spanberger's goal is to make VA like California and Illinois, with respect to gun laws.

Time to heavily increase support for VCDL.

And get people to show up next election! The counties around me sported 51% and 53% turnout rates last night. We've got to do better about showing the heck up.

It's going to be a tough four years for we gun owners here in VA. Anti's have even more control now and locally, two of our incumbent gun rights advocates lost to anti's. The Dems picked up at least 15 seats in the house of delegates and so far have 64 delegates.

Don't forget to look at the person who won the Lieutenant Governor's position and her record.

Looks like I may accelerate a few planned purchases between now and the end of the year.

Did I hear correctly that the number of votes cast for the losing candidate was greater than the total vote count in the 2024 election ( or maybe it was the last Gov. election)? Doesn't anyone else feel this might smell a little fishy?

At least we have a brief period where private sales can stay private? Undoubtedly the new administration will try again to deny this.

As far as anti-gun bills go, VCDL reports that the opposition has over 1,000 bills ready to present at the convening of the legislature. One can only hope that any of these will cancel each other out because of inconsistencies. But, you can bet the rent that our new Governor (oops, I just threw up a little in my mouth) will sign each and every one.

A former soldier I served with has inexplicably become a huge Dem supporter and in a Facebook post celebrated Spanberger a win for a “ moderate democrat” not sure what he is smoking.

It was the most turnout for a non presidential election in the history of Virginia.
I worked the election and we were only about 150 votes below the presidential election. (in person voting, no idea how many mail ins there were). It is usually about half as many for off year voting.
I was pretty down on Wednesday. And while I liked her as a candidate she did not have the 'tv' presence that was needed to overcome the shutdown. many many voters were voting because they do not buy the filibuster excuse and just solidly blame the republicans. Seriously, I feel like I am surrounded by idiots sometimes.

I saw a video that was talking about how 81% of women voted for Mamdani in NYC. This is hysterical. They have a movie in the handmaids tale, dress up as persecuted women, and then vote for the guy who supports the total persecution and enslavement of all women 'because they are diamonds and must be protected' or some BS.

I also worked a precinct, there are just over 2800 voters in that precinct, 939 voted in early voting, 1125 voted on election day, not to mention 11 same day registrations. This is my 6th year of working elections and I have never seen a turnout like this outside of a presidential election.

Personally, I blame the shutdown. This worked marvelously in the Dems favor.
