OttoSigBiometric pistol safe opinions wanted
We’ve been spending time out camping since buying the camper. When I go solo I just put a pistol on a little shelf and that’s that. But when the family goes there are kids camping with us.
So…I want a little biometric pistol safe to put a P320 compact or similar in and be able to not worry about the baby grabbing it or something silly like that.
Anyone own one? I always heard bad things about them before but have they come along to be reliable or am I better just putting a combination lock on something?

gearhoundsA better option than biometric might be a push button combination style that doesn’t rely on electronics. Something like this perhaps-

BlackTalonJHPSince it's for a camper and it will be in various hot/cold, wet/dry environments I would go with a simplex mechanism. This is what I use.

MikeinNCWe had a gun vault microvault (will fit a full sized 1911/G17)with the bio…found out it wouldn’t recognize Mrs. Mikes fingerprint. She has very light ridge detail. She would have to try it four or five times…not good in a pinch. The buttons on the top still worked and it would open that way.
I have gifted several gun vaults micro to people over the years but always the standard version.
I recommend a simplex box or something similar like the gun vault with a backup key. It comes with a cable you can loop around a car frame/seat to use in your truck.

chongosuerteDitto.
Biometrics are not reliable enough.
I use V-Line, highly recommend.

Rey HRHAnother vote for a simplex mechanism vault.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." AnubismpFor keeping out kids I like the simplex, key or combo boxes. Its not a cheap thing they just work over the other electronic stuff. I put one under my truck seat and just leave it there so it travels with us when we stop at a hotel etc, obviously, I bring it in but you get my point.

architectI asked a similar question a couple of year ago here. After much wisdom was bestowed, ended up with a V-Line simplex lock bedside lockbox. I got the Brute model, very happy with it.

powermadThe Vaultek I have is too unreliable for me.
It's basically a keyed box now.
I have it maxed for memory on different fingers and just keep swiping till it opens, licking the pads of my fingers ect.
My hands are too rough and callused to work the first time so I just key it open if I need in.

CooksterI am a fan of the Simplex lock. It is reliable and can be opened very quickly by tactile feel only with some practice.
I bought mine from R&D Enterprises but they are no longer in business. It is bolted onto a very heavy piece of heavy / sturdy furniture.
It is very similar to the
Fort Knox Personal Pistol Safe which is fabricated from 10 gauge steel.
