Eye on the Silver Lining |
This is horrific. I saw a post about 1 of the girls being found, but not alive. I can’t wrap my mind around something as sad and senseless as this. I pray for the families and the kids. __________________________ "Trust, but verify."

My Neice made it home last night. She got a ride out of the camp in a Game Warden's truck. It looks like the Camp Owner/ Director went down with the ship. I'm sad he's gone, but I'm glad to know he was doing everything he could to save the girls. I have a few SIGs.

Ibanda, I'm glad your niece made it out. I'm sorry she had to go through that. I keep reading stories of unlikely rescues, even one girl that they found 12 miles downstream clinging to a tree. Hopefully there are more.

I don't live far from Canyon Lake. We are about 150' higher than water coming over the dam level there. So I believe we are safe in that regard. Last night Canyon was at 877. It has risen 5' as of 915am today. This site shows hourly water levels, coming up quickly. https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwi...no=08167700&legacy=1 It is monsooning here now and has been for an hour or so. Pray for those unaccounted for girls from the church camp.

I will post some images later I took so far, and here in about an hour or so, I’m taking some more. My drone battery is charging now FYI, here along the Guadalupe above Canyon Lake, the river was level with the bank around noon, but there was debris, showing the level had been a little higher for a while. We were told to expect more, and it is possible when the lake starts backing up the river. ![]() ![]() Retired Texas Lawman

Impossible for those families to apply this wisdom right now, but... “For that which is born, death is certain, and for that which is dead, birth is certain. You should not grieve over the unavoidable.…The Supreme Self which dwells in all bodies, can never be slain.…Weapons cut it not; fire burns it not; water wets it not; the wind does not wither it. Eternal, universal, unchanging, immovable, the Self is the same forever. …Dwelling in all bodies, the Self can never be slain. Therefore you should not grieve for any creature.” ~ Bhagavad Gītā, abridged, via Joseph Campbell

With rivers, there are 3 important factors for flooding: In this case, the watershed is enormous since it's 6700 square miles which is almost the combined size of Connecticut and Rhode Island. They had 7" of rain in 3 hours, and at one point it was between 3 and 4 inches per hour. The watershed isn't the type of soil that absorbs much water so it hits the ground and heads towards the river. This storm didn't stall out as long as Tropical Storm Allison, but it did stall which isn't typical thunderstorm behavior. An amazing hero United States Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer and Petty Officer Scott Ruskin, directly saved an astonishing 165 victims in the devastating flooding in central Texas. This was the first rescue mission of his career and he was the only triage coordinator at the scene. _____________________________ Off finding Galt's Gulch

Be nice if a better link to the story on his heroic efforts to save people could be posted. That link is terrible. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

Found this on Breitbart. Gateway Pundit has an article too on the rescue efforts. But when I searched, nothing like CBS, NBC, etc. showed up on the first two pages of the search results. https://www.breitbart.com/loca...irst-rescue-mission/

That would be 1 rescue every 8 1/2 minutes for 24 hours straight. I’m not saying aviation survival technicians aren’t awesome, but I’ll bet the truth is a bit different from the current story. Here we go, he was in charge of triage: ““This is why we take those risks all time. This is why like Coast Guard men and women, are risking their lives every day,” said Petty Officer Ruskan — who was in charge of triage at Camp Mystic, the Christian girls’ summer camp that saw some of the worst of the flooding.“ Link

Great article, trapper189! It tells the story much better. More news; more heavy rains can be expected in that region with risks for flooding for the 24-48 hours. https://www.breitbart.com/bord...-threatening-storms/
