Last year, my wife and I decided that it was time to start a family. Her getting pregnant was no issue and everything with the baby seemed great. She made it a couple days shy of the first trimester and miscarried. The doc wasn't too concerned and told us to get back to it ASAP. Well it wasn't quite as easy as the doc thought it would be and after over a year of trying unsuccessfully we figured maybe we wouldn't be having a child.

To make a long story short after a little over a year of trying again, along with a few trips to specialists we are officially out of the first trimester and on track for a Christmas baby. The hardest part for me is that it's a girl - God truly has a sense of humor. All the tests look good and they're telling us that there's less than a 1 in 10,000 chance of some type of genetic issue. So hopefully things will continue to go well this time and my world as I know it will be over and turned upside down at Christmas.

I've got to figure out how I will commemorate this event with something to hand down. I'm thinking maybe a pair of Colt SAA revolvers, one for me and one for her after college. Or maybe a new watch that I will wear and eventually hand down to her. I've got time to figure it out and am not in any rush, but all of a sudden things are starting to feel real. Wish me luck SIGforum! I should mention that I'm working hard to build my gun collection as much as possible before the baby comes and potentially having to deal with slowing down after the birth of my daughter. Got to have fun while I can. Thanks for letting me share.

Congratulations! Being a dad is the toughest--yet most rewarding--thing I've ever done. I have 3--8,6, and 10 months. Yeah, starting over with diapers and daycare is tough. But they are worth it!

First, congratulations. Fatherhood has been the single greatest thing I have done in my life. It was hard in countless ways. I am ending that journey as you are beginning. My only regret is that at some point raising the children comes to an end. They move on with their lives which is bitter sweet. Nearly all of my effort over the past decades has been for their benefit so that one day they could be productive, law abiding citizens. Now that it is happening, I miss them terribly as they leave.

My only advice is to take time in the melee to enjoy her. She will only be that age once and never again. When my first was born I did not feel about him the way I thought I would. I believed that I would love him instantly. I didn't. The only thing I felt was the visceral drive to protect and provide like never before. Ashamed to admit my feelings, I figured if that was the best I could do, that would have to be good enough. What I learned over the next few months of sacrificing and serving his needs, I fell in love with him. I remember the moment I realized it and the relief and gratitude I felt. To this day, my love for him is different than the other boys. Not more, not less. Different.

I envy you for what you have in front of you. Congratulations again. Smile

Seriously though. At first having a girl was daunting but then I came to the realization that I was a little boy. I know all about little boys. Having a little girl has been awesome. I get to enjoy the same kid stuff but also learn the girl stuff. It’s a blast.

We watched Raiders of the Lost Ark last night and she loved it. She also loves singing and acting and dresses. It’s way cool to have a little girl.

Besides knowing I get to threata.....errrr I mean give lots of young gentleman.......aggressive advice sounds fun.

Congrats and enjoy and always remember. LONG LONG NIGHTS.....give way to VERY SHORT YEARS. That is truth.

It was the single most rewarding thing that I ever did. My girl is grown up and gone now and my pride in how she turned out is unbounded.
Don't miss a single moment of your time with her. They grow up so fast.
