Damn, some of you guys make me feel old. I was standing topside watch on my first boat in Hawaii and had to lower the flag to half staff.

I was in college but home sick. I campaigned for JFK, went to a rally in SF at the Cow Palace and saw him. Surprised he had ginger hair, as all new photos were in B&W.

5th grade. Standing in line waiting for the loudspeaker to tell us to go to the bus to go home for the day.
The principal came on and said the President had been shot in Texas but it may have been an accident. When my mother got home from work an hour later she said he had been killed but not much more detail
Walter Cronkite was the news back then and he did a pretty good job as I recall.
Over the next few days we heard about Lee Harvey Oswald, J D Tippit, the cop he shot, and a few days later saw Jack Ruby shoot him.
Then the funeral. The whole thing was less than a week as I recall.

I was in the 7th Grade at the time, and that was pretty close to what it was like for me too.

I was 4th grade. They brought all of us into the gymnasium and told us. Don’t remember anyone crying until I got home and Mom was. For a week that’s all there was on TV. Saw Jack Ruby kill Oswald. Funny thing is my parents were Dems and were worried about him being Catholic and having more allegiance to the Pope than the USA. Boy things have changed.

It was a Friday. I was working at a VW dealership. Everything came to a stop when we heard the news. I saw people openly weeping.

I left the shop, got into my car and slowly drove home.

First year in High School. They called an assembly in the gym and the Principal made the announcement then told everyone to go back to class. The whole thing was over in three minutes.

I always thought that was kind of a weird way to handle it, not sure why.

I was stationed in Germany at the time. Home visiting wife's family. Had 2 buddies with me/us. Called my company HQ and the CQ suggested we haul ass back to Frankfurt. Spent most of the next week out in the boonies prepared to go to war.

Whole lot of really nervous energy spent waiting to see if/when the shooting started.
