30 million in cash stolen! This has to be an inside job. It would actually be a burden to try and launder 30 million dollars. You cant just pack a suitcase and head for the Bahamas.

Thieves steal $30 million from vault in Easter heist, leave without a trace — cops have no idea how they did it

In a heist of biblical proportions, thieves pilfered about $30 million in cash from a Los Angeles-area vault on Easter Sunday — and no one even noticed the empty vault until the next morning.

The burglary took place Sunday night at the GardaWorld facility in Sylmar, which handles cash for several businesses in the area, sources told Eyewitness News.

The thieves were so stealthy that the safe showed no signs of a break-in from the outside — and the operators of the business were none the wiser until they opened it on Monday, the Los Angeles Times said.

The thieves accessed the facility through the roof and managed to avoid setting off any alarms when they got into the money storage area, officials familiar with the investigation told Eyewitness News.

Footage of the facility on Wednesday showed what appeared to be a gaping hole in the side of the building with a pile of debris next to it — though it was unclear if that damage stemmed from the break-in, the outlet said.

Very few people would have known how much cash was stored at the nondescript facility, the LA Times noted.

The elaborate scheme was likely executed by a crew of seasoned burglars, sources told the paper.

The heist is one of the largest in Los Angeles history and also outpaced all of the region’s armored car thefts, Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Elaine Morales confirmed to the outlet.

As of Thursday, the incident is under investigation by both the Los Angeles Police Department and the FBI.

The LAPD and the GardaWorld facility did not immediately return The Post’s request for comment.

Nor would I. I suppose that a sufficiently talented crew could tail them to the facility and get the location that way, but hitting it would kinda be a crapshoot as far as knowing how much cash was going to be available. Not saying the thieves might not have been sophisticated enough to avoid the security system(s), but that would also be a lot easier with inside info…

I'd be interviewing past employees, and I wouldn't be surprised if one or more wasn't in this country anymore.

Pretty obvious when they avoided every security camera, alarm and were able to easily get into the safe with no one knowing this even happened until they went to get something out of the safe.

About 660lbs, and that's assuming it was all in 100s, which is doubtful. My buddy used to work for an armored car company, and he said you quickly began to hate money because it was incredibly heavy and a pain to move around in quantity.

I used to work as an armored car guard in my last year of college, and a couple months after, until I started my first real engineering job. No doubt this is an inside job. If this was all $50s and $100s it would pretty much fill up one of the typical single axle armored cars. To give a perspective that people might be more familiar with, if you’ve ever seen one of the blue “Fed” trays that money gets moved in, one of those trays holds $1 million if it contains $100 bills. 30 of those trays takes up a lot of space, and that’s if they only took $100 bills. This was an extremely well organized and financed heist, likely planned by insiders over a long period of time.

If I ever take up a criminal Lifestyle, my target would be: Armored Cars. As Willie Sutton once said, "that's where the money is". Or cash storage facilities. I was involved in a Brinks truck theft investigation once. The thieves had been watching the truck route and the pickups. One day they saw the truck had only one guard aboard, when they usually have two or three. When the lone guard came out of a grocery store, the robbers surprised him, took his keys and drove off in the truck. We found the truck a half hour later, empty. The take was over $100,000, IIRC. In small untraceable bills. Never did catch them. Not a bad return for 20 minutes work!

Might be that someone(s) got the idea from an History Channel broadcast episode about the 1978 Lufthansa heist at JFK. That was an inside job too, which netted over $5.8 Million (worth about $26 Million in 2022) in cash and jewels.

I worked for Dunbar Armored for almost 30 years.
All the Armored Company's are the same, CHEAP!
They have a huge turnover for employees. My guess is a inside job,most all are.
That Garda facility probably has seen hundreds of employees pass through over the years,Hundreds of people who have been inside and seen first hand the total lack of any meaningful security.
Dunbar had the record for American robbery loss. They were cleaned out in LA back in the 90's.
The public was told they loss about 16 million, the actual number was about 26 million.

Big banks gave up there cash vaults years ago. All the money is processed by outside venders and delivered to the customers as they order it.This is done by Company's that treat employees like shit, pay the least they can, and expect a huge employee turnover.
I would have many new employees ask me about being robbed on the trucks. My reply was always,"why would somebody bother to plan a Truck robbery,they could much easier apply for a job, get hired,and drive off with a truck full of money". The biggest threat was always your own partner.
Most Armored Company's do not operate 24-7. They mostly run 2 shifts and simply lock the doors when its time to go home.No night watchman or guard.
I used to go to Brinks,Garda, and Loomis daily,all were security jokes.
Garda was by far the worst, Brinks was the best.

This isn't a traditional money center. Makes me wonder if they're housing dispensary proceeds. Well played, if so.
