Interesting. Nylon shell, polyester mesh liner, water repellent treated, stowable hood, velcro cuffs, no chest pocket nor really breathable but for $30...

Thanks bald1. that article was really helpful. I ended up going to marmot.com because I like their products and AFAIK they are not "woke". Ordered a Gravity jacket--I don't care for a hood on lightweight jackets like that.

Glad it helped. Marmot makes great stuff but only up to XXL which was fine for me years ago but now I prefer 3XL (old age and the "spread" don't you know). And FWIW I don't think I used the hood on my old jacket more than twice in 8+ years. The Columbia Tieton Trails soft-shell I ordered doesn't have a hood either.This message has been edited. I have one of their jackets and one of their vests and they are awesome. Soft shell type jacket. While not a chest pocket there are 2 pockets inside of the jacket and vest. They're out of Cordova, Alaska and are popular up here. Expensive but worth it, warm, dry, sewn in the USA.

FedEx delivered the Tieton Trails soft-shell jacket today (Sunday) after a delay.
I am extremely pleased. Has all the features I wanted such as an exterior chest pocket (in this case no hood vice a hide away hood in the collar). Lightweight and breathable so it should offset the non-breathable and sometimes sweaty in warm weather Columbia Cougar Peaks II water-resistant nylon windbreaker shell it is replacing.
Again the only differences I found between the Tieton Trails and Ascender Columbia models were with the elastic vs velcro cuffs (and I had thought Omni-Tech water treatment on the later but looking around the web tonight I don't see that as a feature). Regardless this style and features is spot on for me. :thumbsup:

Old (acquired Sept 2012) Columbia Cougar Peaks II (tusk / shade) rain / windbreaker
New Tieton Trails (gray / heather) soft-shell "upgrade" from the old nylon windbreaker.
Still going try to find a seamstress to replace the elastic in the cuffs of the old jacket.
