tacfoleyEver hear of Captain Tom?
He is a 100 year-old veteran of the WW2 Burma campaign, and decided a few weeks back to walk the length of his backyard a hundred times to raise £1000 for the folks of the NHS, who are having a very hard time here in UK and dying off at an appalling rate.
Well, today is his 100th birthday, and he has raised, wait for it - in excess of £30 MILLION - so far.................
Happy 100th Birthday Captain Tom
Happy birthday to such a wonderful man. I am glad to see the BBC put on such a tribute for such an inspirational man.
It was wonderful watching the RAF doing a flypast, the Prime Minister and all the different celebrities paying tribute to him. He is also the oldest person to have a number one record, with Michael Ball, it's an amazing story.
A 99 year old war veteran wanting to raise £1000 towards the NHS before his 100th birthday to show his appreciation for them has raised at the moment just short of £30 million, the donations stop tonight so I am sure it will pass through the £30 million before midnight.
It is truly a wonderful story to bring some cheer during these awful times.
Captain or I can say now Colonel Tom you are a true inspiration to us all. Happy Birthday Colonel, stay well stay safe.
Ade
Just an update he has now passed the £30 million mark.

Okay. But she did talk about his efforts in the card so I figured it was personalized instead of the standard "Happy birthday" especially with all the notoriety, fly by, honorary colonel, etc. Regardless, what he has done is impressive. And he seems to be a genuinely decent individual.
