A few shots from the Aurora last night. Amazing night with a strong Aurora, a full moon and scattered clouds making for some color gradients that were absolutely amazing.

And my guess is the pictures are nowhere near as spectacular as seeing with your own eyes. I want to be able to see that someday.

Great pics ! I was in AK a couple years in late August salmon fishing and the evening sights were incredible. You're a lucky man where you live.

Beautiful! Thank you. What did you use to take the pictures?

Beautiful! Is it common to be able to see them so well this early in the year?

The Aurora is actually active year round. It's just that it is only dark enough during the winter months to see them up here. It's not unusual to see them in September. What was unusual about Monday night is that they were so intense to show with a full moon.

Wow! Those are amazing, 2000Z. Definitely a bucket list item, but having been to Alaska a couple of times, I know that the weather can be crazy and can ruin a chance to see this spectacular show.

Did you take these near Eagle River?

My son and DIL moved there a few months ago.

Combination of a couple of different locations. I was up on Baldy Trailhead in Eagle River between 0000 and 0100 the first time I went out. Then I was at various locations along Knik River Road between 0400 and 0500 for the second time.
