fatmanspencerI'd be explaining to the deputy why I pulled off my belt and displinced my child. Or I'd be explaining to the parents why I pulled my belt off and handed it to them and said do your job or I will.
Does my son sometimes get a pissy fit an cry and slam his little hamfist on the door when its shut? Yeah. Does the door open because he does this? No. I let him cry. Builds character and lung strength. BTW, he is almost 2. I expect a 2 year old to cry when mom or dad walk out the room and shut the door. I expect this parents to be arrest for disorderly conduct.

NeelThe kid is one of the primary reasons I always check my pocket and make sure I have foam ear plugs each time I fly.

I thought about that, I don't see as they had any good options:
1. Kick the family off the plane (I think Mom was carrying an infant, did not see a dad).
2. Return to departure airport after an hour or two.
3. Lock the wild child in the bathroom.

Just saw this article with a few details:

smschulzMaybe times have changed but I wouldn't be able to sit in the seat without a "very soft" pillow if I acted that way.
NO WAY would my parents stand for that.

KarpteachWow, that’s crazy. My mother would have ripped me a new bunghole.

Bingo. My brother and I would have known better than to even attempt such BS. If the kid has mental issues, then he should have been sedated for the flight. Nobody who purchased a ticket should have had to endure that nonsense.

And this explains exactly how to end up with a kid that has no idea how to behave. some adults should not have kids

k5blazerAccording to the article Sigmund posted the child has a medical disability. Wonder if the parents warned the crew about legal consequences. Maybe that is why none of the crew did anything. Still the parents should have taken the other passengers into account. Selfish shit heads. Given my misophonia, I don't know how I would have reacted.

Situation awareness is defined as a continuous extraction of environmental information, integration of this information with previous knowledge to form a coherent mental picture in directing further perception and anticipating future events. Simply put, situational awareness mean knowing what is going on around you. February 15, 2018, 04:10 PM
OKCGeneInstead of the airline offering free flights to the psssengers, I think the kids parents should be forced to pony up the money.

The purser was either gutless or, their supervisor told them to get on with the flight or, risk being apart of a headline grabbing discrimination lawsuit. Given how risk adverse German companies are, I'd say the later.

beltfed21I would have purchased 3 cans of soda, shaken them vigorously, then give them to the parents and the child.

Spanking still works on autistic kids. My opinion is this kid is just an asshole.
I raised as autistic boy and while he tried those things at an early age it didn't last long. He felt consequence, every time. He learned a lot faster than the other kid in the family. Usually, one punishment was the end of it.
I've also seen what I'm going to call fake diagnoses of autism. It's tossed about way too often. "Oh, he's on the spectrum" is no excuse to me.
Another autism parent here. My child has freaked out on a flight before (right before take off), but it would have been a cold day in hell before we let him run rampant through the airplane.
