A Texas homeowner fatally shot two masked men late Friday after they posed as officers serving a warrant and opened fire on the house, police say.
The Houston Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the southeast part of the city around midnight, Officer C. Jones told Fox News Digital.
The suspects were wearing bulletproof vests marked with "police," but no patrol cars or flashing lights were present, raising the homeowner’s suspicions, authorities said. The two men were also wearing masks covering their faces and badges around their necks,
Fox 26 Houston reported, citing the police.
"They became suspicious because they have a Ring camera and the suspects were stating they had a warrant, but it's just two people, and they're masked up and no police cars, no lights or anything like that," Lt. Khan told Fox 26.
Police said the men fired into the home before the residents returned gunshots, killing both, the local station reported. Arriving officers attempted CPR, but the men were pronounced dead at the scene, the outlet added.
The homeowners were unharmed, according to Fox 26. Police have not released the identities of the two men, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Mustang-PaPaWow! Great job by the home owners. Saved everyone a lot of trouble and expense.
Glad the home owners were well armed and unharmed.
Two more worthless pricks out of service for good.

12131The area is blue collar, but really, it could happen anywhere, even swanky parts of town.

smschulzI served on a jury maybe ten years ago or so where a guy posed as a cop, stopping cars and robbing them at gunpoint. We gave him 50 years to think about it.

honestlouIf the photo in the linked article is correct, it looks like a nice neighborhood.
I am curious about the gunplay. If the perps actually were wearing body armor, how did the homeowner get them both? I'd think someone would haul ass at the first sign of return fire.
Headshots? Rifle that defeated the body armor? It just seems unlikely that the homeowner would kill both of them. Congrats if it went down as reported, but I'm curious.

YooperSigsI would guess they were wearing empty plate carriers. Actual plates are pricey!

400mMaybe their body armor was as fake as their warrant!

12131A thick winter jacket doesn’t a body armor make.

wrightdThis should be interesting, since things aren't lining up. Typical completely empty-headed reporting if you could call it that.

Pipe SmokerI read the linked article, but saw no indication that the perps had records. I suspect that they did.

Perhaps they trusted the $19 plate carrier and
$60 "tungsten" plates from TEMU

This was my first thought as well.
My second thought was we only have the word of the reporter to go by. It's quite likely that any tactical-looking, MOLLE vest is by default a "bulletproof vest". Do you trust a journalist to get it right? People who know anything about ballistic armor & plate carriers don't call them bulletproof vests.

The OP posted the Houston Fox affiliates news story. I checked the Houston affiliates for NBC, ABC, and CBS. Calling them bulletproof vests came from HPD's public information officer.
From the Houston NBC affiliate: quote:
Lt. Khan with HPD said both suspects were pronounced dead at the scene.
“These suspects were wearing bulletproof vests and had some sort of badge around their neck and were wearing ski masks as well. So right now, we don’t have ages on the suspects. They look to be younger, maybe at the most like in their 30s, and the complainants are okay. They’re not struck, they’re not injured,” Khan said.

iron chefThanks for the clarification. HPD's Public Information Officer is probably as ignorant about ballistic armor as the reporters are.

calugoThe two, now deceased fake cops, probably thought they had come up with a brilliant can't fail plan to rob someone. Then they were introduced to reality that their plan wasn't quite as brilliant as they thought.
