Recommendations for home air purifiers Login/Join

My wife has had some respiratory issues (coughing, sneezing, wheezing etc) for some time now. There's no need to provide a full medical history. We have explored all of the medical options. The one thing we haven't tried is using an air purifier. I would be very grateful if anyone could provide any recommendations for air purifiers. Thank You.

A timely topic, sir! I'll direct you to Oransi.

Excellent products on the market now, and a new U.S.-made product coming to market shortly.
Check out their "Beginner's guide" here for a lot of good information on indoor air quality, purifiers, and how to choose the right product for your needs.

I have a pair of their purifiers running 24/7 in my house, and I'm very happy with them.

God bless America.

I’ve been using an air doctor AD3000 for a few years. Works well. My wife is sensitive to the smoke fumes, which we get sometimes during fire season.

My wife and I have a Bissell Air 400 that we have been using for a few years now.
It has a display on the front to let you know what the air quality is.
You can either set the fan speed manually or select the auto mode to run the fan based on air quality. We run ours on medium speed most of the time.
It also has a built-in timer if you only want to run it for a certain amount of time.
It uses a 3 filter system consisting of a pre filter, a hepa filter and a carbon filter.
It has an indicator that let's you know when the filters need to be replaced.
Our house is not big so it is in our living room/kitchen which is about 400 square feet.
We run it 24/7 and I am amazed at how much dust the pre filter collects.
So far we have been pleased with it. We still have to dust on a regular basis but I think part of that is because our development is in the middle of an older orange Grove. We are only about 100 feet from an area that is a field of sand where the orange trees used to be.
We also have smaller Bissell MYair air cleaners for each bedroom.
Filters are easy to find on Amazon for both air cleaners.
The Bissell air 400 we got through my wife's reward program through work and the smaller one we purchased from Amazon.
I think Amazon sells the Bissell Air 400 on their site.

Second this. I bought two a couple years ago, I think based of forum info. My wife said she noticed a difference within a few days of getting them.

I’m a BlueAir fan. Not cheap, but they pull a ton of crap out of the air, evidenced by the filters when they get replaced.

Ever since I deployed three of these Winix True HEPA 4 Stage Air Purifier with Wi-Fi and Additional Filter from Costco around the house my asthmatic wife is coughing and sneezing a lot less. (For the square footage there should actually be four, and I may grab another, but, three seems to be getting the job done.)

The pre-filters, alone, are catching a bunch of dust. When I vacuum each week I shut them off, pull the front off, and vacuum the pre-filters.

They're relatively small and quiet, which is nice. When we recently got all new bedroom furniture I temporarily relocated one into the bedroom for a week to help knock-down the out-gassing from the glue and finish.

Both of us asthma and allergies. Tried many different brands over time, Honeywell, Germguardian, and now BlueAir. The BlueAir is the best for us by far. We run two of them 24/7.

Do you keep up with (or have you upgraded) your home HVAC intake filters? It's easy to forget such a thing.

You may want to consult a respiratory therapist and ask about the effects of HEPA and or ozone and the relevance to her particular medical requirements.

Or there is bunches of info on the internet

I have really bad allergies.

Last year I started buying 400s Coway air purifiers off eBay.

They are good for 1500 sqft. of coverage.

I bought one for each floor.

I have gone from allergy pills every day to a few times a month.

YMMV

I raise quail indoors. The dust and dander they create made the space unbreathable. Coughing, sneezing, and eye irritation forced me into a solution. I put a Honeywell HPA3300B in the quail shed last November. Best investment I’ve made in years. Room is about 400 sqft.

I have three of these in a 2400 sq ft house.

One in the master bedroom. One in the living room / dining room. And the third in the den. They're controllable from an app which I actually don't. I just set them up once and it's automatic. I also have 7 of their humidifiers as we're in Arizona. Without them, we feel cold in the house at 77 degreees.

I just received a PuroAir 400 from Amazon. It uses a HEPA 14 filter, supposedly hospital grade, and an activated charcoal filter for odors and gases. It is made in China, but the technology seems very sound; and speaking of sound it’s noisy at the highest level but fine at medium and low. Prefer this over a Honeywell we have elsewhere.
Coverage is supposed to be 2145 sq ft. Claims 99.99% removal of particles down to 0.1 microns.
The HEPA 14 grade filter seems to be a step up from most home air purifiers.
