I've lived here 57 years, it is a huge area. As far as the visit have them check out: Deep Ellum Lower Greenville Uptown/McKinney Ave Trinity Groves Bishop Arts District Northpark shopping mall Take a drive around White Rock Lake Oak Lawn (if she prefers an alternative lifestyle). As far as hotels, the Fairmount would be good. Classic hotel in the Arts District. A block away from the Museum of Art. The Omni is ok, a little too close to the downtown bus station for me. As to where to live, that would greatly depend on where the restaurant is. If you'd like to mention it, we would be happy to check it out when it opens. | |||

Tell her to spend some time downtown, off 75 around Mockingbird, the design district (off 35 close to downtown) and Northern Oak Cliff. A lot of this will depend on the exact location of her restaurant. If it’s in a burb, she may not like it all. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone | |||

Thanks for all the great suggestions. The restaurant will open in the late fall. It will be in the PwC Tower, facing Klyde Warren Park, at 2121 N. Pearl St. | |||

My daughter worked for PWC there and lived in uptown off Laclede and McKinney until recently. It was a fun area for her. | |||

That is just a couple blocks away from where my wife works in a high rise on Ross Ave. I feel it is a 'decent' part of downtown. Funny when they built Klyde Warren Park, it is literally built over a highway, she said she would never go there. Now she takes walks there everyday at lunch. They usually have food trucks lined up around the park. Lots of apartments around in Uptown. Have her check out the Farmer's Market area as well when she visits. Also the Victory Park over by the American Airlines Center where the Stars and the Mavericks play. Lots of concerts there as well. Hook Line and Sinker on McKinney and Lemmon Ave. for excellent casual seafood.This message has been edited. Last edited by: 1lowlife, | |||

Ok, since her work will be off of Pearl, I would suggest The Ritz-Carlton Dallas or better yet Hotel ZaZa. She will be right off of Mckinney Ave, with great restaurants and nightlife. Many of my customers stay in both and always have nothing but good things to say about both. No problem getting around with Uber or even the trolley that runs up and down Mckinney Ave. Fun area. Great place to eat is Avanti's, my favorite restaurant on Mckinney Ave. I take all of my customers there. So many to try.This message has been edited. I discussed this with my wife last night. She recommended the Dallas Marriott Downtown or the Sheraton Dallas Hotel for hotels. The Sheraton was recently renovated. | |||

If you put her at the Ritz, she'll smell a rat. ZaZa is right near there. So is the Fairmont, and Omni. The Anatole is a very short drive and has an amazing pool area. But ZaZa is in uptown, and that's someplace she might actually want to live. There is nothing in or around Dallas that someone from LA will recognize as "traffic." I've lived in Dallas now for 38 years, but I can't offer any better advice than others have already supplied. We have a world-class symphony hall, a number of excellent museums, a vital art scene, and some hip places (none of which I frequent), so there is something here in Dallas to satisfy any need. When she actually gets the restaurant open, please let us here in DFW know and I'll give it a try. (Maybe could even schedule a DFW meet there.) flashguy Texan by choice, not accident of birth | |||

She grew up in Chicago, we have some of the best museums,and Arts establishments in the world. She moved to Santa Monica and hung around there and Malibu for about a year before she moved to Hollywood Hills and works in Beverly Hills (Beverly Center). It would take a LOT to impress her at this point. What will impress her is a lower cost of living and realistic people. I hope and think she can find that in the Dallas area. All she needs to see is enough "bling" to satisfy her young (28) urban lifestyle. | |||
