All my potty seats are low tech, manually operated models.

You’re supposed to close the seat?

Winner!

Thus the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.

I only slam it if I haven't flushed

Every single time I use one that isn't slow close. I don't know how I got by before these things.

Same. I avoid that one. The slow close one is a much better flusher too.

I had the builder's grade toilets replaced last year and the high flow replacements came with soft close toilet seats. I don't even think about gently closing a toilet seat anymore so I've pretty much dropped it every time I use the restroom at someone else's house. For example, I spent a 3-day weekend at Dad's house last year I finally caught on by about when it was time to leave.

I feel like a caveman every time I slam one. And of course it happens when I am at someone else’s house.

Makes it sound a thousand times louder too.

Yep, every time I go to someones house or a motel, typically the first time, SLAM!

The thing is to give them a look, like—what, you don’t have a soft close seat?

Never heard of it. How does it work? Some kind of friction device in the hinge? And why not just lower it gently by hand, which is what I always do anyway without even thinking about it?

If you're raised in a house with a mom and three older sisters, that shit is ingrained in you as deeply as yes sir and yes ma'am! My wife has thanked them from time to time.

I dunno. My new Colorado has a dampened tail gate. Just undo the latch and it floats down. At first I thought it was kind of stupid but after a year of using it...I kind of like it. Smile

I have always lowered toilet seats "by hand" anyway, so not much slamming. The one thing that irritates me about the soft close seats is they do not want to stay up, when you put them up. They tend to stay away from the up position just a bit, like they want to close. You have to hold them there a couple of seconds so they'll stay in the full up position.

I’ve slammed plenty of drawers after getting soft close everything in our kitchen but our soft close toilet seat feels totally different than our normal ones so I never accidentally slam a regular toilet seat.
