Three Generations of Service |
Today was my fourth visit to the VA Outpatient Clinic in Bangor (Maine). First trip was to see the Veteran's Service Officer to get my paperwork ducks in a row. On time, pleasant, professional and efficient. Second trip was for testing and fitting for my hearing aids. On time, pleasant, professional, efficient and VERY attractive lady doctor. Third trip was to pick up the hearing aids and have them tuned. On time, pleasant, professional, efficient and same cute doctor. Today's trip was for an eye exam. On time, pleasant, professional, efficient, extremely thorough (several tests I've never had done before), 9/10 optician's assistant and the doc wasn't too shabby either. They'll mail me my glasses. In short, the exact opposite of what I've been told to expect from the VA and significantly better than any civilian provider I've used for either specialty. Be careful when following the masses. This sounds like the service that both myself and my wife (both discharged 1977 as US Army vets) began receiving services starting about 3 years ago when we finally got signed up. They actually found a heart problem that she had no idea of problem and now under control.Had went in for a schelueded appointment and were directed to immedately proceed to a major hospital about two blocks away and the ER was expecting her arrival . The service at the local VA clinic as well as the VA Hospital in New Orleans has been outstanding for both of us. Prior to signing up I had heard many horror stories in the past but I no longer have those feelings. Just hope that things do not change with the current changes with the new occupants of the White House...............Just received a letter from the VA today dated 1/15/21 confirming my next virtiual phone call appointment with my primary care doctor on July 29th, 2021. .............................. drill sgt. This message has been edited. I have only been to one VA hospital and it has been here in Durham. Every time I have been there the service and people have been outstanding I actually just got off a virtual appt. with a PT for my shoulder. She took care of me for my back and now she is looking at my shoulder to try to get it squared away so I can pass a PT test if the Army ever has one again. The only complaint I have with the VA is that they will not let this particular PT do rehab appts. She is remarkable so they use her for Pre and Post consult evaluations. I know if I could have had her from the beginning my back would have healed 5x faster.

Let the folks in charge know. If you recall the names of your doctors and therapists let them know.

I sent an email to the Clinic Manager praising the Ophthalmology and Audiology departments in particular and the staff in general. Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

I've been receiving treatment through the VA since 2017 and have been 100% satisfied with their services and treatment. Recently broke my leg which required surgery, had an appointment with the orthopedist within a couple days, scheduled surgery a a few days later, surgery was successful and didn't cost me a penny. Everyone I have dealt with at the VA has always been professional and provided excellent treatment. I'm sure there are people that have had bad experiences but so far for me the VA has worked well.
