You misunderstand me. The 20% loss is in local terms before you try to get it out. By the time you convert, you're left with less that six percent of your original value.
A lot of younger people have left already. This is no place to start your career. For the people around my age group, it's more a case of getting your kids educated so that they can leave.I don't have children, for which I am grateful. You adapt to the circumstances. A lot of people have predicted SA's demise for decades so there's very little surprise in all of this. One becomes fatalistic over what's going to happen. Fully 30% of the municipalities have collapsed, another 30% are almost there. Only 8% are considered to be functioning properly.

That’s horrible. I feel for the honest, law abiding people left in SA. GTHO of there while you can, fatalist or not. Better to be alive starting over somewhere else(hard as that may be) than the alternative.

Given the Chinese investment/influence EVERYWHERE in the world, this is very possible. Anyone who has not yet realized that the Chinese are out to take over the world, needs to wake the hell up. Steve Bannon is exactly right on this issue.

While the South African government denies the problem, and news sites such as BBC and The Washington Post raced to debunk farm attacks after President Donald Trump tweeted about it in August 2018, attacks appear to have risen from between 100 and 200 in 2012 to over 400 in the past year. Meanwhile, South Africa’s president and his party have vowed to move forward with a plan to amend the constitution to allow for the seizure of farmland owned by white Africans to give the land to black Africans.
“The government dismisses it,” Mariandra says. “The government denies that it’s happening.”
“There’s a climate in South Africa in which violence is romanticized, actively even up to the state president,” AfriForum Deputy CEO Ernst Roets told the Caller, “and it’s romanticized and it’s encouraged.”
AfriForum is an Afrikaner civil rights group and is one of a number of groups that have tracked farm attacks in South Africa.

We've seen this before. I am not sure what I would do in their place. Seems the obvious answer is to leave but perhaps losing everything is a fate worse than death. Think about what it would take to get you to leave everything and move to a country to start over in your 60s. I think most of us would fight and hope.
