Have some extended family that is messed up unfortunately. Not something I have a lot of info on. Blended family. Mother and father are not great individuals. From the little I know they are giving up parental rights. So kids are currently in custody of the state. A mother of one of the adults may try to get custody of some of the children. Based on my knowledge of her I am not a fan of that either. Kids are one early teen age girl. The other two are under six. So a horrible situation. What is going to happen to the kids in state custody from those of you with experience on this topic? Prayers for these young children would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals. Prayers for all involved. As a father of children under 6, I can’t fathom this choice. Words fail me.

Hard to say with so little information. Where I live, the Juvenile Court will appoint a Guardian Ad Litem to represent the child. They usually work with the juvenile authorities as the child's representative. I don't know much else to tell you until you know more information. Here's a link to the Georgia version to get an idea what they do. They are the people I'd call. https://oca.georgia.gov/traini...pendency-proceedings ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

When I lived in NC, the state tried to keep the kids together and put them with a family member….I would imagine most states are in line with that. Since this is happening in AZ, try this place for more information then go from there. Do a search for the GAL office where this case is taking place. If you are going to try to get involved yourself, I hope you live there as that would make things much easier. https://fosterarizona.org/guardian-ad-litem/ ___________________________ Avoid buying ChiCom/CCP products whenever possible.

Laws and policies vary from state to state, but I suspect they're all fairly similar. If this were Arkansas, then they'd be placed with the closest biological relative who's willing and able to take them, and who is deemed suitable to care for them via background check, home inspection, etc. If there are no suitable relatives available, they'll go into foster care and be placed with a non-relative foster family, until such time as they can either be reunited with their parents (if reunification is a realistic goal), or taken in by an appropriate relative (if one is eventually able to be located), or adopted by a non-relative (if neither of the above are feasible). They generally attempt to keep siblings together, whenever possible. And yes, they'll have an Attorney Ad Litem / Guardian Ad Litem appointed by the court overseeing the case, a lawyer whose job it is to advocate for the juveniles' best interest and ensure the kids are being treated fairly and properly. Plus in some courts, they'll also have an Advocate appointed (around here they're called CASAs: Court Appointed Special Advocates), whose job it is to advocate for the kids' wishes too.
Again, it varies from state to state, but you typically can't just hand your kids over to state custody and just say "I don't want them any more, you take them". More likely, their kids were removed from them due to being abused/neglected, and they're simply not going to attempt to do what's necessary to fix the problems and get their kids back. This approach will result in eventual termination of their parental rights and adoption by someone else (relative or otherwise).

Yes Rogue, What you mention is the case I believe. I believe the mother has an alcohol issue. The father travels for work. The mother had an issue of some kind which cased a problem and the kids were taken. Again, I do not have too much of the story. But you are correct and thanks for pointing that out. I judge requested the father file a no contact order against her to maintain custody. He refused ![]() A horrible situation for these kids. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

In South Dakota the Court will appoint someone from CASA to advocate for the child / children. https://www.sdcasa.org/ Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

The girl I married when we were 18 was in state custody for the last four years of her youth. When she was taken from her home, she was placed in a temporary foster home. A temporary foster home is a house with parents, usually a kid or two, and the temporary foster kid (or kids related). Many times they will go to a permanent foster home, which can range from really good, to something similar to a puppy mill. I wish the best for this situation. It’s a bummer this is happening to these kids.
