I heard that a high-ranking Roman Catholic made a definition of Epiphany that I thought was incorrect. Texan by choice, not accident of birth

Roman-Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, and a few other Christians observe the Epiphany on January 6th. Eastern traditions on January 19th. And some the 1st Sunday after Christmas. So, depending on which religion affiliations, and calendar used. But for Roman-Catholic, it's January 6th. ARman

EPIPHANY, which in the original Greek signifies appearance or manifestation, as St. Austin observes, is a festival principally solemnized in honour of the discovery Jesus Christ made of himself to the Magi, or wise men; who, soon after his birth, by a particular inspiration of Almighty God, came to adore him and bring him presents.

Correct. Why is Epiphany 12 days after Christmas? Christians believe that the 12 days of Christmas mark the amount of time it took after the birth of Jesus for the magi, or wise men, to travel to Bethlehem for the Epiphany when they recognized him as the son of God. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

OK Flashguy who was the high ranking Catholic? In my mind that would be the Pope or one of the Cardinals.

That makes two Christian observances about which I'd been blissfully unaware until this thread. (N.B.: There's no way our Christmas decorations will be staying up until Feb. 2.) LOL A lot of Christians don't know about that, either. I could have gone around the neighborhood Sunday night and seen trees out on the curb, but in fairness they probably had them up since Thanksgiving.
