And you know some asshole went out there anyway. I swear, people get on the roads in western Washington in conditions they have absolutely no business being in with not the faintest idea what to do. No heavy plows, rubber guarded plow edges to keep from scraping the little yellow road “turtles” off, no salt. The plows act more like Zambonis, they just make every compacted and smooth. Yeah, go drive in that shit and then “chain up” for the pass. Roll Eyes

Certainly not on that particular highway route, but when I was a kid we used to go sledding on forest service/ logging roads up in the Cascades in that area. I remember some epic runs Cool , but hella long hikes back up while pulling our runner sleds behind us.

Most people have no appreciation or respect for what drivers in Northern states have to be prepared to drive in. We were a VW family living in the Cascades, and both our Bus and our Bug stayed on studded tires, and often chains, through early-mid Fall, all of Winter and up through mid-Spring. Every Christmas Dad would get a tree permit and we would take the Bug up some forest service road packed with snow, park, trudge out, pick the right tree, cut it down with a Swede saw, trudge back out and strap it on top of the BUG roof rack, and driving it home. Never could've gotten there without studded tires and chains...but even studs and chains won't help you when driving an iced-up incline/ decline.

If it’s where I think that is, 300-400 foot drop off.

Growing up, we always referred to snowmobiles as "snow cats". I say that nowadays and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. Not unlike clips vs. magazines. Big Grin.

I always thought snow cats were the vehicles in the Shining. I don't know much about snow mobiles, but my friends with them call them sleds.

These go to eleven.

Maybe drivable - just not steerable or stopable..........
