Old Spice always reminds me of my paternal grandfather. He'd wake up a 5:00 (his version of sleeping in during retirement), set off the smoke detector making breakfast #1 (toast that was very, very black), shower, shave, put on some Old Spice, and come out to eat Breakfast #2 that Grandma had cooked. I miss him as he was a kindhearted man Ego is the anesthesia that deadens the pain of stupidity DISCLAIMER: These are the author's own personal views and do not represent the views of the author's employer.

My example is kind of inverse. I was waiting in my local barbershop a few years ago. Several others waiting were engaged in conversation. One person who I didn’t recognize ( but turned out to have lived in our town growing up for a few years) mentioned a dentist from the town and how he always reeked of cigarette smoke during dental appointments, just that mention was enough of jolt to literally smell and visualize myself back in that dental office, after 35+ years! My Grandfather owned a Farm back in the 40's to the mid 60's. On the farm there was the pump house. A small building that housed a gas pump for the farm equipment. Opening the door and taking a good whiff of that Leaded gas was like a feast for my nose.

Many scents. Patchouli, my hippie days of the early 70’s. Old Spice, my dad. The “old” rear axle and trans lube, GM 1050081, the stuff before GL-4 ratings, hot, rodding in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Silage, my farming relatives. Just some of many things. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. Hawaiian Tropic suntan oil. Reminds me if the community pool and Jessica Kumpe. Tommy Hillfiger original ‘Tommy” cologne. Takes me right back to my early 20’s and hitting the clubs in Deep Ellum (Dallas) Texas. Some of the best times of my life. The “lol” thread

My Time is Yours |
Yes...to a dark time. The smell of burnt concrete and steel. When my shop was broken into 7 years ago, the POSs sawed through my safes with an industrial circular saw. They strapped it to the safe and tightened it as it ate into the safe. That smell of burnt concrete; sandwiched between the steel sheaths still gives me anxiety. God, Family, Country.

Old Spice and Avon cologne/aftershave remind me of my paternal grandfather. Certain kinds of fresh cut grass takes me back to my little league football days. Every so often the combined odors of detergent, cleaning supplies, etc.. instantly transports me back to Fort Knox for basic training (1992/2010).

Pancake syrup. Not the pure maple syrup you get in Vermont. The corn syrup based stuff. My father worked in a very large private label bottling plant that made the pancake syrup, bbq sauce, and other items that a large number of you consumed many years ago and today. His clothes would be infused with that smell. I spent many Sunday mornings/afternoons there with my brothers, roaming the empty plant while dad piddled around in the "shop" where he had all of his wood working stuff. Smelling that out of the blue will instantly take me back to that plant and my childhood, or being next to dad after a long day at work. Also, there's a particular weed or plant in Montana that also takes me back to my childhood. Smelling it takes me back to those simple days before getting wise to the world. Summertime in particular, and being outside all day long exploring, catching frogs, hunting ground squirrels, horseback riding, hiking. Need to pinpoint the source of that one and bring it back to the south with me. -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks

A spring morning and wet grass has a smell that still reminds me of Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island. And that was 34 years ago.
