Does a smell of a certain scent take you back in time?

Oat_Action_ManDoes a smell of a certain scent take you back in time?
There's some sort of perfume or lotion (don't know the name of it) that the roommate of a girlfriend I had in college wore. Every time I smell it, it drops me right back into that dorm room in Georgetown.
Someone smoking cloves drops me into a different girlfriend's dorm room.
And any time I smell patchouli (which is disgusting), I immediately remember my childhood playing with He-Man toys, because the "Stink-Or" figure was impregnated with patchouli. "Stink-Or" was a skunk-man....

Oh, I remember that smell all too well. Now that cloves have been banned in the USA, I'm unlikely to ever smell that smell again.

Tooky13Tomato vines... immediately takes me back to our vegetable garden when I was a kid. That, along with honeysuckle, great memories.

Clove cigarettes are banned, but clove cigarillos are still available.

0658For me it is Patchouli Oil; it is not a good remembrance. Every dirty dope smoking hippie degenerate of the 1970's reeked of the stuff. The smell alone was almost probable cause for a search.

WarhorseThe smell of Cabbage cooking always made me think of old people's houses, probably because of my Grandparents house, I used to despise it. Now that I am an old person, I love it.

Elk HunterYes, often when I smell chlorine, as in some form of bleach, I suddenly recall my trips thru the army gas chambers.

LastCubScoutI used to take swimming lessons in an indoor pool when I was a young child. The smell of chlorinated water in a humid, enclosed environment instantly reminds me of being five or six years old. Similarly, the burning sensation of water going up my nose also reminds me of being a young boy.

mark123Ampeg combo amps have a hot musty wood smell when the tubes heat up. An Ampeg accordion amp was the first amp I got to learn guitar. I hated that thing. When I tried out a newer used one at GC it had the same smell and that caused me to not like it. That takes me back to the day I threw it in the trash and reminds me that it would have been worth some loot now.
