71 TRUCKI bought my first automatic watch.
Congratulations. Nice watch.
This is just the beginning.
My first automatic watch was a Seiko dive watch.
Now I have more than one

and my wife now collects watches.

Green HighlanderCongratulations. There is nothing better than an automatic watch, As an earlier poster noted they have soul. Last year I went on a Steinhart kick and picked up three of them. Love 'em all and enjoy figuring out which one to strap on in the morning.

stickman428Well, it’s going to need to be regulated or fine tuned. I set it pretty damn close to atomic time yesterday and today it’s about 1 minute 15 seconds fast. How expensive is it to have an automatic watch regulated?

Was that on your wrist or sitting? Try it on your wrist. They are often more accurate when they don't sit in one position. But they aren't expensive to regulate.

stickman428Jhe888, I think it was a combo of low power and being set down.

357fuzzI wear an automatic everyday. It is an Invicta Diver. I know... junk Invicta but, it is an older one with a decent Japanese movement an it is pretty accurate. I have had no issues.
If it gets blown up at work I won’t cry as much as it happening to my Tag or Tissot.
I have always considered a Sieko 5. Thanks for the info.

slabsides45I've been looking at Seiko 5's for a while now, but seems like a ton of the ones I see on eBay are shipping from India. I get a bad feeling about buying one of those....

Try this, it's Japanese.
Seiko 5 SportI'm no expert, but I'm told the J1 is built in Japan, whereas the K1 is Malaysian-built.
God bless America. December 08, 2018, 11:17 PM
wildheartedson0105Beautiful Seiko! Funny how you mentioned Citizen. I've worn inexpensive beater Timex watches at work, and only in the past few years gotten into nicer "not wearing in a fabrication shop" watches.
Well, my most recent beater Timex died. I feel naked without a watch. For the past few weeks I've been wearing my least expensive Eco-Drive at work, and planning my next Seiko purchase.
I swear, Citizens are like an entry drug that introduced me to Seiko

Most of them. There’s a Hamilton Mechanical wind, a Bulova Lunar Pilot high frequency quartz, and a Seiko Prospex Solar. The rest are automatics

Did you wear it all day yesterday? When you put it down, did you set it down dial up or dial down? My Hamilton runs much more accurately when it's rested dial down than dial up. You can also try resting it on it's side to find out which way it prefers to rest.
The Seiko5 is a budget auto watch so I'm not quite sure what the expectation is for accuracy but usually +/-10 seconds per day is the rule of thumb unless they are COSC and then it should be under +/-3 seconds per day.
