So, I guess their firing missiles into Iraq would be enough excuse as well—?

But it’s always fascinating to see confident predictions like this, so I won’t hesitate to congratulate you if you’re right.

gearhoundsThere will be no attack by Russia on Iran. The most they’ll do is condemn the act as a formality. Iran will likely cease fire and claim the barrage as a win. I really hope the countries affected by the downing of the aircraft demand access to the black box data immediately.
Trump blasted the Obama administration in his address saying that the weapons used last night were funded by the cash provided by them. Outstanding!

They need no reason. Only an opportunity and an end. But this is Ukraine.
Sort of like a plane load of Conservatives shot down by other Independents, over flyover country, being attacked by Leftest for shooting down Conservatives.
More likely, Leftest would deliver pallet loads of cash to the Independents.

P220 SmudgeExcellent address by our President. In summation, he talked about the rocket attacks, said no US or Iraqi troops were harmed, credited our early warning and missile defense systems. He talked about taking out Soleimani and emphasized again why we did it. He talked about our military capability and said "but we don't have to use them. We don't want to use them." He concluded by saying he wishes for Iran and it's people to have a prosperous and peaceful future among the world community.
He remained resolved, but did not say anything that I would consider poking at Iran. If anything, I think he was trying to let them take the credit for this face-saving maneuver of tossing a few symbolic missiles at some sand.

He's spot on again here:

As such, he was no different ideologically from other terror leaders like Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden and ISIS commander Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
Like them, his life was devoted to killing people via terrorism.
And like them, he was killed by US forces to stop him directing more terror acts.
Yet unlike Bin Laden and Baghdadi, Soleimani’s death has been met with howls of protests from the world’s liberals.
Within minutes of it being confirmed, out sprang the usual suspect mouth-foaming Trump-loathing celebrities who erupt in hysterical rage every time he speaks, tweets or does anything, often with little knowledge of what has actually happened...

Yes, and a good analogy.
When I know something about events in certain parts of the world, as I do about the relationship between Russia and Ukraine over the past number of years, I sometimes wonder if I'm on the same planet as people who seem to know so little.
But I could be wrong, and will be watching developments with more than a little interest.

Piers Morgan is a Piers Morgan supporter. How many headlines does a “journalist” grab by either:
A) slamming Trump in an ocean of old media “journalists” slamming Trump
B) one of the few on old media saying it was the right thing to do?
I’ve got a $100 on B getting more

oldbill123Many if not all the people on the plane had to be tied to Iran's political elite. I doubt the average Iranian has the resources to get out of the country for vacation or any thing else.

sdy https://www.foxnews.com/world/...ck-warning-officialsU.S. military officials were warned about Iran’s pending ballistic missile strike “when the air defense systems went active,” shortly before the attack was launched, a U.S. official in Baghdad told Fox News on Wednesday.
U.S. intelligence picked up "chatter" from Iran and inside Iraq, tipping off American forces to strike around 1:30 a.m. local time -- or 5:30 p.m. ET. Soon after, Iran launched more than a dozen short-range ballistic missiles into Iraq, striking military bases housing American and coalition troops.
Officials said there were no reported casualties.
The Iranian strikes -- the country's most brazen direct assault on America since the 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran -- targeted two bases, one in the northern Iraqi city of Irbil and the other at Ain al-Asad in western Iraq.
President Donald Trump, in an address to the nation on Wednesday, said American and Iraqi forces suffered no casualties and there was minimal damage at the military bases because "of the precaution was taken, dispersal of forces and an early warning system that worked very well."
"I salute the incredible courage of America's men and women in uniform," he said.
Pentagon officials told Fox News the advance warning of the Iranian missile attack is the reason Defense Secretary Mark Esper held a hasty press conference Tuesday afternoon. He said he wanted to offer Iran an off-ramp talk "without preconditions," he told reporters.
U.S. officials said they could see Iranian ballistic missiles movement Tuesday, thanks to U.S. Air Force early warning aircraft, flying radar, circling high overhead in the region. The suspicious Iranian activity also was monitored from American spy satellites in space, officials said.
According to early damage assessments from the two Iraqi bases, 11 Iranian ballistic missiles -- 10 at al-Asad and one at Irbil -- landed in areas where there were no American troops. This explains why there were no U.S. or coalition casualties, officials said. Four other Iranian missiles failed to hit their targets.
It was not immediately clear where in Iran the missiles were launched.

You're kidding right?
Iran isn't some insanely locked-down country, plenty of ex-pats go back and forth. As a foreigner so long as you get a visa, you're going to be watched; depending on who you are as an ex-pat, you will be watched as well. As long as you're bringing in money to spend, they'll welcome you in.

Oh, it's more fun than that. This is Putin watching Ukraine suffer and be shown to be weak purely (from the Russians' perspective) because they declined the protection that comes from being a Russian vassal state. The Iranians aren't just killing the citizens of Russia's opponent in the region, they're freakin' conducting Russia's diplomacy for Russia in an entirely Russian manner.

Two countries, two different situations. I agree with you, once you've left a bad situation, why roll the dice and return for a 'visit'. American journalist Jason Rezaian and filmmaker Maziar Bahari learned the hard way.
