MSNBC Airs Baseless Iranian Propaganda About Dead US Soldiers

MSNBC gave airtime to baseless Iranian propaganda alleging the Islamic Republic had killed 30 American military members in missile attacks Tuesday night.

Iran launched missile attacks on two Iraqi bases housing U.S. troops Tuesday, in retaliation for the U.S. killing notorious Iranian terrorist Qasem Soleimani. At the time this article was published, there were no known American casualties in Tuesday night’s attacks, but that didn’t stop MSNBC from giving oxygen to Iranian propaganda claiming otherwise.


MSNBC host Chris Matthews brought in NBC News Tehran bureau chief Ali Arouzi, who repeated the Iranian claims to MSNBC’s national audience.

“We’ve just getting reports now that a second wave of rocket attacks have been launched from Iran. The IRGC was saying that Ayatollah Khamenei, the supreme leader of this country, was in the control center coordinating these attacks. This is, uh, this bit I’m not sure about,” Arouzi said, before sharing the unverified propaganda claims, “but Iran state media is claiming that 30 U.S. soldiers have been killed in this attack. Now, this is not confirmed, this is just coming from Iranian media, but we have just stepped over the precipice, Chris.”


MSNBC did not immediately return a request for comment on the decision to air the Iranian propaganda claim.


At almost the exact same time that MSNBC aired the Iranian claims about U.S. casualties, CNN cited a U.S. official in reporting that there were zero known American casualties at the time.

Iranians quickly claimed the plane crash was due to mechanical failure. Sounds like they hit it themselves otherwise they would have been blaming the Great Satan.

Well it was a Ukrainian Airliner... not like they excel at aircraft maintenance and stuff...

Not saying it couldn't be something else, but it's not exactly the safest airline in the world.

It was a 3 year old 737. I’ll bet a dollar that thing was shot down being mistaken for an American missile or plane.

Not untrue. But, man, that's a heck of a coincidence to happen on that night just an hour or two after the missile attack.

There was some chatter that Iran stated that they shot down an American war plane. Oops. Maybe that "American war plane" was just a civilian airliner, from an unaffiliated country.

I agree the timing looks like some itchy SAM operator flamed it.

But an unlocked luggage door coming open after takeoff or FOD on the runway would have easily done this as well.

Not like we'll know for sure unless the US Intel shares anything they know, which they may not even divulge but even photos from the crash will bring something to light in due time.

The same radar systems that detected the Iranian middle launches would have picked up a missile launched at the plane.

Some key tentative answers will undoubtedly come out in a day or two.

If Iran shot it down it's just another example confirming they can't be a good world citizen.

at this point I don't think President Trump needs to take any definitive action...lets see the BDA and I'm more concerned about what the Ukrainians might do - damn - those look like holes in the fin...

Iran saying they won't give up/share the black box sounds pretty sketchy as well. Not going conspiracy theory yet, as it has been correctly pointed out that Russian/Ukraine airlines are the most poorly maintained in the world.
