Save an Elephant Kill a Poacher |
For some reason we have been overrun with mosquitos this year. I found a DEET spray, Cutter brand I believe (It's in the garage, I'm in house) that is odor free and oil free. I have found it to be effective. 'I am the danger'...Hiesenberg NRA Certified Pistol Instructor NRA Certified Rifle Instructor NRA Life Member

I use Talstar. 1 oz per gallon and I use a 2 gal cheap pump sprayer. Works. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

Go ahead punk, make my day |
For some reason we were able to requisition an entire Air Wing of F-45 "Dragonflys". They are tireless and always on patrol in the front yard (4+ acres). They have been so efficient that we haven't used repellent all summer and I don't think I have been bitten once. Every time I go outside there are 5 immediately visible engaging the enemy and as I walk, I see another 10-20 more slaughtering mosquitoes, flies, you name it. They take no prisoners. I hope they come back next year, because it has been a really pleasant summer.

When it came to war last year - not with mosquitoes but with hornets, I bought one of these bad boys to spray my Talstar. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod..._title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 One treatment in the spring and no bugs, hornets or mosquitoes during the summer this year. I haven’t been bit or stung one. Works for me. I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ................................... You need to address standing water near your home. When I lived in NC, I took garlic pills and that actually seemed to make them not want to bite. I also had a gypsy woman curse me. Until recently - I had the benefit of a moderate eastern brown furry bat colony. (about 25 bats). They occupied 1 of the 3 bat houses I had set up about 10 years ago. I had minimal, if any, evening mosquito issues in my back yard. Several have died off over the past 2 years - there are about 7-8 left and they have abandoned their bat house - to occupy a corner of my soffit. They are still impactful - but not what I once had. If you can set up bat houses - it's a low impact alternative with a one-time investment.

I live in the middle of a swamp and surrounded by water. They are everywhere. At dusk the swarm comes in with relentless attitude. I tried the Spartans and they did nothing. I was skeptical but made a very expensive decision and it works. I bought one of these with the CO2tank. I also use the cutter or off yard spray for the trees, shrubs, bamboo, rocks etc about every 6 weeks https://www.megacatch.com/shop...ito-traps/ultra.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Live today as if it may be your last and learn today as if you will live forever

If you opt to spray or fog, please do so as close to dusk an a calm day as possible. That will offer enough time for thins to settle and have a lower impact on pollinators. Here is a link to an article on beehacker. Toward the bottom is a link to information about how to combat mosquitoes without harming pollinators. I have downloaded the information and intend to share it as much as possible. Without pollinators, there will be less food.

Only dead fish go with the flow |
I’m located in central NJ near the shore. With respect to the water issue, my yard is good but I’m only on a 1/3 acre and I can’t control what’s happening in adjoining yards. My neighbors are good with maintenance of their property but they all have pools. I’m not sure if pools contribute to the problem. I would assume not since they get used often and have chlorine. OK, the pressure washer idea is out, bubba I was thinking outside the box (and frugally). I’m going to try the Talstar or Bifen. In the meantime, I’ll continue to lather myself in Deep Woods Off since it's very effective.
Damn! That looks awesome but I’m not quite there yet.
